Wow! From Keith's first blog....
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 09:36 PM by FLAprogressive
"Watching Wisconsin unfold is like watching Tahrir Square earlier this month, and last. Well, it would be, except the television networks – for whom this is a) far too complicated, and b) far too troubling to their corporate bosses – are treating it like it was a dispute over which Green Bay Packer really should’ve gotten the Super Bowl MVP award, or not treating it at all. Even the news that the Wisconsin Republicans tried to lure the Democrats back in-state by threatening to vote on a heinous voter-caging bill has been ignored for a little more on Charlie Sheen or his Libyan counterpart."

I think we're going to see Keith: Unfiltered from here on out, free of the M$NBC corporate censorship.

5. "The Official Not-For-Profit Blog of Keith Olbermann"
I suspect that he has to keep it not for profit to get around his contract deal with MSNBC. After all, he is doing this on his own dime, not selling his services in competition with a commercially laden cable channel!

It is great to read his words, can't wait until we can HEAR him again. I just wish his commentary was longer.

52. I most certainly did not. Painting Sheen with the same brush as al-Gaddafi detracted from K's point.
Had he said "Walker is dictatorial like al-Gaddafi" that'd be one thing. Had he left it as "Sheen is a distraction the media goes for" that'd be one thing. But instead, he equated Sheen with al-Gaddafi and that's a bunny with a pancake on its head. That false and frankly bizarre equivalency has no business being in his otherwise spot-on post.

He wasn't comparing Charlie Sheen and Libya, but commenting rather on the fact that the MSM is choosing to not cover the protests.

17. Sorry Keith, this isn't Tahrir Square...this isn't Tunisia, and this isn't Libya
Edited on Sat Feb-26-11 04:46 AM by NuclearDem
This is America. This is an example of Americans standing up against American politicians and companies bent on enslaving us and stripping our rights.

Trying to identify with the Arab revolutions might seem like solidarity at first, but in the end, it'll make this look like a passing fancy, as if Americans really need an external source to get up the courage to defend our own rights. Wonder why the Tea Party was so successful and simply didn't fade out after the summer protests (besides corporate and widespread news coverage)? They identified (however stupidly) with an American event and made it seem like a uniquely American happening. The left needs to do the same.

This isn't our Tahrir...this is our generation's Pullman strike.

Which doesn't invalidate your point, it just underscores how little the working class in this country knows of our own history.

21. I have to disagree: Egypt, Tunisia, Lybia, Wisconsin, Ohio...it's all part of a new
growing awareness, an evolution, if you will, brought on by information sharing across international borders. People have seen what corruption governments have been working from all over the world. South America woke up because of the dirty dealings of the IMF, working hand-in-hand with republican/military politics and drug/gun-running syndicates (Bush mafia) .

People are awakening all over the world as they share and hear from one another. The dark lords are going to lose in the end.

22. In the words of Robert Anton Wilson (via the year 1990)...
"If the rate of increase of information does have the structure of a Mandelbrot set, as McKenna claims, by the year 2012 we should have information doubling every day and, later in the year, every hour and then every nanosecond. I can't imagine what this means practically in terms of social change, because every doubling of information in the past has resulted in totally unexpected social revolutions, violent or non-violent."

51. Interesting quote
I've read and tried to understand this quote the best I can but don't think I have it completely. It sounds like it might be an optimistic point and perhaps the prediction makes sense with the protests around the world here and there. Or maybe I'm completely missing it and should be scared about some kind of information overload.

What exactly is "doubling of information?" Does it mean that even if the media outlets ignore some important story (like these protests) that the majority of people will know about it anyway through other media?

By the way, I found some info where Wilson talks about past times in history when this doubling happened, including Leonardo's time (when the Renaissance was going on), the American Revolution, and so forth. But if it's happening every nanosecond, what's that mean? I hope someone could shed light on this for me. Thanks!

54. I think what he's saying is that these important events aren't being given the coverage they deserve...
Probably because they don't fit with the world view that the corporate media would like us to have, that they're given the same weight as stories about sporting events or news about celebrities. That's my take on it, anyway...

56. Hi! Thanks!
Well, it seems like our understanding is about the same. But hopefully my guess is right that sooner or later (2012 according to the prediction) it won't matter if the "major" news outlets want to talk about Britney Spears because the growing majority will go elsewhere for the truth and progress won't be stopped with more and more lies. I hope my guess is right. Gives me some hope for the future at least!

57. I think KO now feels less constrained in criticizing the mainstream media
(Not that his working for them stopped him all that much in the past, LOL.) Having been an insider there for so many years, he certainly understands what goes on there better than most people can, and he is also letting out his frustration. Like Dan Rather, he has reason to criticize, but also has the bona fides to be taken seriously... Gives me hope, too, since these are perilous and remarkable times, so we deserve and need to know the truth. :hi:

25. you think mentioning Pullman would have rang a lot of bells, do you?
Or...not so much. These are diffferent days, our problems are cause by multinationals, and we were part of Eqypt's problems. It;s not just that the Pullman reference is (sadly) obsecure to so many... it;s that it is economically, quite outdated.

Edited on Sat Feb-26-11 01:03 PM by Cleita
I had many of those early in my working days. When they came back from the three martini lunches, it really was literally walking on eggs around them not to set them off. I actually timed my filing to be away from my desk then so I didn't have to deal with the sexual innuendos and sometimes groping and other verbal abuse. Of course, back then, there were no clerical unions to stand up for you.
