So, will Obama defend our mercenaries if they start to fire on Iraqi protestors?
Just wondering, as everything seems to be in play around the globe these days and much of the bloodshed in recent protest locations, like Egypt and Libya, seems to be perpetrated by these lovely goons or guns for hire in those places. In Egypt it seemed to be Mubarak's party's goons that did the shooting/sniping/raping/theft of antiquities, etc. In Libya it is reported that Ghaddafi has a large private army, many of which were recently recruited from surrounding impoverished African nations.

We now have escalation of unrest and protests and violence in Iraq, where half of "our," forces are mercenaries. Granted they aren't likely recruited from surrounding impoverished nations, rather they are mainly our ex-military earning like $1,000/day. Who controls them? Where do their loyalties lie when the chips are down?

Would they fire on Iraqi crowds protesting?

Does it matter what the protestors are aiming protesting about?

How would Obama react?

This seems like a powder keg waiting to happen to me.

Any one else CONCERNED?

Any ideas?

Any scenarios?

Any suggestions?

The Revolution will not be televised but it will be on Twitter.

4. Well, he has argued for 'diplomatic immunity' for the merc that killed 2 in Pakistan.

6. That's right Tekisui, I forgot about that
Maybe that was in play in my subconscious these last few days.

That's an amazing story that just keeps expanding, huh?

Hard to keep up.

You're a guy, trying to provide for your family back in the states. You did your first tour and then were stop-lossed and did a second. By that time you were so addicted to the thought of big money for essentially what you have been doing for Uncle Sam for a couple of years and maybe feel you owe it to yourself. Your experiences would make Hurt Locker look like a day in the park. You have PTSD up the ying yang but you figure one more stint and you can quit.

At any rate you work for one of the "contractors," and while everything is hunky-dory for a long while, suddenly Iraq becomes somewhat unstable and there is escalating tensions and civil unrest, no one abides curfews imposed, social networking has flash mobs mobilizing and coalescing in different areas at once spontaneously. Maliki is getting desparate as it is apparent to all that he can do nothing, he has been a do-nothing to get the infrastructure to the point folks are totally fed up with life in Iraq and are no longer afraid to do anything about. This is not a religious or terrorist driven phenomena at this point. All the talking points used to run out the clock no longer make sense. Maliki gets so desparate that he orders his forces to fire on the demonstrators in Iraqi cities. You had been originally tasked with security details and support/training of Maliki's police forces. His own forces refuse his orders and he appeals to the mercs. You do what you are told, you are getting paid to do a job and you have your family to think of. You know the locals have sussed you out and keep an eye on you. You are running security for some of the bagmen running around the Green Zone but this request to your bosses takes you back into the streets of Baghdad, now daily in violent clashes. You become threatened and in a corner when on a patrol to protect the outer perimeter of the Green Zone.

What do they do when told to fire on advancing demonstrators?

It is a hell of a possible situation to contemplate.

All the elements are there, what will happen?

Is it not a question of if but when?

Am I the only one CONCERNED?

Just my dos centavos
