Jeanne Assam asked to leave New Life Church after coming out
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/25/jeanne-assam-says-she-was_n_828201.html

<snip>
The former security guard at New Life megachurch who heroically stopped a gunman at the Colorado Springs church in 2007 says she was asked to leave after announcing that she is gay.

In December, 2009, a 24-year-old gunman named Matthew Murray opened fire on New Life's Colorado Springs facility, shooting four people and killing two. Jeanne Assam, then a 42-year-old volunteer security guard and ex-Minneapolis police officer, shot the gunman--who fatally shot himself soon afterward--as he entered the church.

At the time, Assam--who said her strong faith was responsible for her swift and decisive action--was hailed as a hero.

However, she says the warm feelings from New Life subsided after she told them that she was gay.

4. Or it could be that Jeanne Assam is lying... again
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 03:52 PM by RSillsbee
When the whole new life shooting thing happened it was clearly established that she only hit Matthew Murray twice once in the wrist and once in the hip. The ME stated that Murray shot himself in the mouth and the ballistics matched the bullet in his brain to his gun.

Jeanne Assam never once disputed this and even stated once or twice that she was grateful that she hadn't killed Murray

Until she got a book deal (God the Gunman and Me. In which she thoroughly denounces he "sinful homosexual lifestyle"and claims that God "delivered her" BTW)Then she was all over the news talking about how she had killed Murray. She was even confronted , on camera, by a local reporter (KRDO's Heather Skold)w/ the forensic evidence that Murray killed himself and still claimed that she had killed him.

Whether or not she's gay is of no moment the fact that she is a lying media whore who is trying to extend her 15 minutes ( and sell her book) is

My guess is that she told the Pastor she was gay and got told that because the doctrine of that church states that Homosexual behavior is unacceptable behavior for a Christian that she was welcome as a parishioner but not on the ministry staff.

ETA Note I am neither condoning nor condemning the church's stance I am merely speculating on what really happened

3. Fundies, you're missing out on a key demographic here
Since you are a business - you would think you'd want to pull in more cash.

Gays and Lesbians have said cash, and some of them would be willing to give you some. But no - you have to be all bigoted.

(yes I realize the GLBT community is more than a demographic with cash - but I'm trying to appeal to the Conservative Christian)

5. Yes, but have someone to hate is a great bonding mechanism...
just like hating Jews was in Nazi Germany.

7. Good example. After WW2 the public was so Nazi-fied that when Jews returned
To their old homes, their old neighborhoods, they were usually killed on sight. This by their former neighbors, friends, etc. Before Hitler Jews were as integrated into German society as Jews are here in America.

6. Are they going to kill themselves to repudiate being saved by her?

8. FWIW the pastor of the Church is on record
as categorically denying her allegations and states that she is welcome anytime she wants to come back.

You do know you're defending your worst nightmare ( A civilian w/ a CHP who stopped a mass shooting w/ out any help from the police) right?

10. I have no Idea When asked by a Gazette reporter
Brady Boyd stated that jeanne Assam's allegations were "absolutely untrue" and said that they would never ask someone to leave New Life over their sexual orientation. I know gays that attend New Life and no one ever asked them to leave.

New Life is a big church there's like 15 thousand people that go there. I doubt very seriously they worry about what any one parishioner is into.

I said it in my other post but Jeanne Assam has a track record of being less than completely truthful.

She got fire from the Minneapolis PD for lying about an altercation she had w/ a citizen. Then she tried to sweep that under the rug when people started asking her about it after the shooting. As, I said in my other post also, she went two years agreeing w/ the county coroner that Matthew Murray killed himself after she shot him and the changed her story when her book came out. Even after she was confronted on air w/ the forensic evidence that showed she didn't kill him.

She got a job w/ the Palmer Lake Colorado PD after the shooting but they let her go after 1 year and now she's running around telling every one that New life gave her the boot. Based on her track record and what I know of New Life I don't believe her.

I think after the shooting Jeanne Assam got stuck in the trap of letting that one moment define her life. I don't think she was ever able to put it behind her and just move on.
