someone just called me union "scum" on my youtube channel
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 03:05 PM by Generic Other
His first post on my video was astroturf. I checked his other postings and they were all the same comments. Now, however, he's gotten ugly. I am not accustomed to being called "scum" by anyone. I have responded but am considering deleting his comments as I am not willing to provide a forum for his point of view. Am I wrong to feel this way? Should I just disable the comments? Or just block the person?

Here is his orig. post:

Right to Work:
Every worker should have the FREEDOM to join a union if they choose.
NO worker should be FORCED to join a union or be FORCED to pay dues or fees to a union just to obtain or keep a job.
FORCED unionism is forced SLAVERY!
Forced Unionism relies on gov’t regulation for union power instead of selling the benefits of the union to worker who would be free to choose.
Forced unionism is bad for the union because politics change.
Why do liberals LOVE being slaves?

My response:

You benefit from the union's hard fought victories. Don't like a 40 hour week? Paid vacations? Sick leave? Retirement benefits? Job safety regulations? Who do you think is responsible for the rights you have in the workplace? Union workers earn 17-30% more than their non-union counterparts. Have better pensions and benefits.
But you'd rather defend your right to work at minimum wage, with no job protection, and no say in how your bosses treat you.
Who is the slave?

His further response:

I don't work just 40 hour week I don't get Paid Vacations, Sick leave, or Retirement benefits. I create my OWN Job safety regulations and I'm responsible for the workplace rights.
Union workers earn 17-30% MORE than their non-union counterparts. Have better pensions & benefits.
STILL they cry for "social justice" HYPOCRITES!!
I work for myself. I take the risks! Crony democrat politicans redistribute the rewards to panderi to overpaid public union scum! Justice?!?!

My response:
Any worker who calls other workers "scum" for standing together sounds bitter and confused. Or sounds like the boss.

6. Yeah, that would be my take..............
I would just say something along the lines of, "Being called a union scum by a Koch head dupe is a compliment, so thank you."

16. I have never been called names at DU
It is a shock to be attacked for defending the right of collective bargaining. Even where I work, management and union are not that antagonistic toward each other. During lean years, the union has voluntarily made concessions. Just like the Wisconsin unions have done. But to be asked to give up the right to the process is ludicrous. Why would anyone agree to such a thing?

3. Good argument.
Too bad most of the right wing crazies are too stupid to realize they are fighting against their own interests.

5. This loser probably doesn't even have a job...
He's sitting around spamming youtube. That should tell you something.

I have my own business and it would be a hell of a lot better if people were getting paid fair wages. Salaries haven't increased in real terms over the past thirty years. Back when unions were powerful there was a solid middle class that kept the economy humming.

15. Isn't that the same lunatic ramblings as Jared Loughner was spouting?
In fact, in some corners of the Net, people are already running for cover, hoping to avoid collateral damage from Loughner's madness. Take, for instance, a comment that concluded one of his YouTube videos and immediately rocketed around the globe: "No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver! No! I won't trust in God!"

I don't even know how to respond to this nonsense. Obviously, if what he said was true, he'd be swimming with the fishes. Instead he's just flapping his gums!

21. Your response is that a typical Liberal Democrat....:-)
You responded was calm and collected... and you used facts... and was shocked that someone could call you a name! Because you have never responded to someone like he responded to you.

You have never looked thru the eyes of a hateful, bigoted point of view.

I have found out that you CAN'T reason with these types of personalities. They hate and can't see past that hate no matter what facts you present.

Delete his comments and move on.

Peace,

kim

23. Here's how you fight back.....
Got this technique from the loony aka "How a toilet brain works"

Edit all his posts to say "I support Unions" and then ban them from your channel.

This technique is used by a lot of right wing channels.

"How a toilet brain works" also has a lot of personas that he uses to make it look like a lot of people support his loony right wing ideas

Where did you get that, just curious.

Personally, I'd delete the comments. It's pointless, this guy's mind is closed off.

27. wiki has it higher
The wage gap of non-union workers and unionized workers since the 1970’s has varied between 21% and 32% in the U.S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_wage_premium

I would think this is a good thing. Non-union should view it as a reason to be unionized to protect your interests.

I think I will just post a link to the rally info for tomorrow instead of the comments. It's ultimately more useful.
