To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

According to that info, I'm afraid peaceful protests within Tripoli won't do it. Will have to be an armed march from outside Tripoli.

Very disturbing reports that they're being targeted around the city. Seems the only safe place for them is the airport.

I'm really worried this will end as a street to street battle in Tripoli rather than a jubilant peaceful demonstration.

He won't hesitate to mow down tens of thousands of unarmed protesters. The man must be stopped and at any price.

CAIRO -- Members of Libya's Arab League mission say they have resigned en masse because of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's use of force against his opponents.

The 11 members said in a statement Friday they decided to quit and join the opposition demanding that Gadhafi abandon power.

The head of the delegation, Abdel-Moneim al-Houni, had already resigned as Libya's ambassador to the 22-member Arab League on Sunday.

The Libyan diplomats at the Cairo-based bloc join a number of other Libyan diplomats around the world who have turned against Gadhafi. There has been mounting international pressure for the Libyan leader to relinquish power after four decades of iron-fisted rule.

There is a military unit ready in Sicily to the Dutch people to evacuate. The Hercules C-130 of the air force had Thursday already nine Dutch and 33 people with another nationality evacuated.
The Unit came last night back in Sicily, where it has since been waiting for a new flight. The Dutch geëvacueerden be flown tonight to Schiphol.

Every second, day in day out, into all hours of the night the gritty details of life on this earth are streaming around the world. As we see the lives of others played out in our living rooms we are beginning to understand the consequences of our actions and the error of the old ways. We are questioning the old assumptions that we are made to consume not to create, that the world was made for our taking, that wars are inevitable, that poverty is unavoidable. As we learn more about our global community a fundamental truth has been rediscovered: We are not so different as we may seem. Every human has strengths, weaknesses, and deep emotions. We crave love, love laughter, fear being alone and dream for a better life.



You must create a better life.



You cannot sit on the couch watching television or playing video games, waiting for a revolution. You are the revolution. Every time you decide not to exercise your rights, every time you refuse to hear another view point, every time you ignore the world around you, every time you spend a dollar at a business that doesn't pay a fair wage you are contributing to the oppression of the human body and the repression of the human mind. You have a choice, a choice to take the easy path, the familiar path, to walk willingly into your own submission. Or a choice get up, to go outside and talk to your neighbor, to come together in new forums to create lasting, meaningful change for the human race.



This is our challenge:



A peaceful revolution, a revolution of ideas, a revolution of creation. The twenty-first century enlightenment. A global movement to create a new age of tolerance and understanding, empathy and respect. An age of unfettered technological development. An age of sharing ideas and cooperation. An age of artistic and personal expression. We can choose to use new technology for radical positive change or let it be used against us. We can choose to keep the internet free, keep channels of communication open and dig new tunnels into those places where information is still guarded. Or we can let it all close in around us. As we move in to new digital worlds, we must acknowledge the need for honest information and free expression. We must fight to keep the internet open as a marketplace of ideas where all are seated as equals. We must defend our freedoms from those who would seek to control us. We must fight for those who do not yet have a voice. Keep telling your story. All must be heard.

Moustafa Ahmed had been scraping through the soft soil since Tuesday. He was using a shaped wooden plank to dig and the throng around him was scattering the soil behind a nearby eucalyptus tree. "We know they're there," he said. "The people heard their voices."

Word soon got around the military base, which has become the main attraction in town, of the frantic dig out back. Even more cars began arriving, people convinced that living proof of Colonel Gaddafi's cruelty was only inches beneath their feet. Helpers poured in from everywhere, chipping away with concrete blocks and anything that could be used as a makeshift tool.

"The door is here, we know it's here," one man cried. They hit a water pipe. It slowed no one down. Fifteen minutes later they struck a piece of shaped concrete and pandemonium broke out. A swarm of several hundred men descended on the site in less than a minute. "Find a lock, it's not far away, came a shout."

The door was never found and probably never will be. With two giant dungeons nearby, small underground holes would probably have been redundant. But such is the rage here against the regime and so vehement the distrust towards one of the region's cruellest despots that all those who stood in the desolate, muddy earth were convinced they were helping exorcise something vile. The process seemed almost cathartic.
