Have you read the Repubs platform for your state?
The platform for Iowa is chilling. I wonder if they are all like this.

No Unions.
No minimum wage.
No OSHA.
No taxes for corporations.
No Social Security.
No Medicaid
No Medicare
No right to healthcare.

I could go on, but you get the drift. Is your's as bad?

3. I'll have to have breakfast first to stomach it ... The people get what they vote for, but I

sure as hell get tired of the stupid factor dragging me down to their level because of their stupid logic, vote and general stupidity and love of ignorance. I've often thought a solution for those that love this type of BS as you listed for Iowa could be to have their own state(s) and leave the rest of us alone. I'm sure my state is the same for that list. One relief is the Internet keeps more rational Americans connected together.

It's a horrible thought, but I think more and more people are getting cautious about what state/area they live in ... I've moved numerous times for better jobs over my career, but if I were doing that today I would look carefully about a states' politics and would avoid certain states, and I had a lot to offer. I think there are many similar to me that want to avoid certain states/areas if they can. That will probably create even more polarization in the US IMO.

6. In Texas, they are against abortions in response to genetic testing.
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 07:15 AM by Ilsa
But God forbid they offer anything to help take care of the family or child with debilitating genetic disorders.

They also want to phase out Social Security and Medicaid. I must gave missed the Medicare phase-out section.

7. the texas platform
the whole thing is here
http://static.texastribune.org/media/documents/FINAL_2010_STATE_REPUBLICAN_PARTY_PLATFORM.pdf

its just scary how these so called small government conservatives want to stick their noses into other people bedrooms

Family Values – We affirm that this section is a response to the attacks on traditional family values. These include wellfunded, vigorous political and judicial attempts by powerful organizations and branches of the government to force
acceptance, affirmation and normalization of homosexual behavior upon school children, parents, educational institutions,
businesses, employees, government bodies and religious institutions and charities. These aggressive, intolerant efforts
marginalize as bigots anyone who dissents.

Marriage Licenses – We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple
and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.

Homosexuality – We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown
of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the
fundamental, unchanging truths that have been
ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be
presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to
include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant
special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin),
custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil
penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.

Texas Sodomy Statutes – We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority
granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.
Pornography – We urge our governmental bodies to enforce laws regarding all forms of pornography. We urge more
stringent legislation to prohibit all pornography including virtual pornography and operation of sexually–oriented
businesses. We oppose the sale of “Not Rated” (NR) movies and video games to minors

Controversial Theories – Realizing that conflict and debate is a proven learning tool in classrooms, we support
objective teaching and equal treatment of all sides of scientific theories, including evolution, Intelligent Design, global
warming, political philosophies, and others. We believe theories of life origins and environmental theories should be
taught as challengeable scientific theory subject to change as new data is produced, not scientific law. Teachers and
students should be able to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of these theories openly and without fear of
retribution or discrimination of any kind

9. I watched Republicans destroy Atlanta and Georgia

at a time when Atlanta could have been a model city. I voted for Carter, hoped that Atlanta's abundant sunshine would lead to a solar/green revolution in that city and then spread throughout the state.

Georgia had the people and the resources and the thought of bringing science and the common person together back then and might have become a beacon in the South.

Instead, deregulation, overdevelopment and vast disparity in wealth/education/health care in the state, coupled with an inability to separate the church from the state, have meant a collapse of an overbuilt, ill-planned and no-holds-barred economy. There is no direction in that state, as entire strip malls close down and homes are in foreclosure and banks are failing worse than in almost all of the nation.

I expect the same for Tennessee, and I pity the people here. But you get what you vote for.

I will be moving away. If the South wants Republicans, that's their choice. I've seen the damage they do. No thanks.
