Scott Walker used to work with Operation Rescue
learned from Proud2BLibKansan who went to see Rachel last night in Lawrence: post:

"Another interesting thing that happened is I had a conversation with Dr Kris Neuhaus, the doctor Rachel interviewed on her show. She is a friend and her story is just horrific. She worked with Dr Tiller. Until today, she had not spoken out publicly. I've known a few details of what happened to her but she revealed more on the show. She said she knew Scott Walker, the WI governor. She said he was an Operation Rescue member for many years until he was elected to office. She knows the OR people pretty well; they stalked and harassed her for years. Too creepy."

3. I said yesterday, Walker is a true believer
Unfortunately he does not believe in Democracy. He is a zealot for his cause and willing to hook up with the devil himself to meet his ends.

There's also something here about facism coming to us wrapped in the flag and carrying a bible.

13. Lost in a lost world.
I have not been able to DU as much as I'd like, but you were always one of my favorites.

The Red Clouds lost both their patriarchs and one matriarch last year. So I have some work to do in that area. That may explain some of my muddle headed thoughts as of late.

PS You would have gotten my First one, but you hid from this former anthropologist like no artefact ever could! Well done.

17. I keep thinking about what Walker said about "He isn't ONE of us." One of us? Us who?
I wonder if they are "this" kind of person who harasses and uses these terrible tactics against their "enemies"?

19. I first became aware of that phrase, "one of us", about...
Edited on Thu Feb-24-11 11:06 PM by northoftheborder
....15 yrs. ago. It was how the "religious-right Republicans" identified themselves to each other. They are a cult. They think they are superior in every way to others who do not believe their doctrine. They try to associate with only each other, as often as is possible, and give deference to the "us" in every instance. We now have the results of their ambition: the take-over of the US government; it is almost fulfilled. These new Republicans who have been elected have been working towards this goal all this time, and Governor Walker is one of them. It is sickening, and disgusting, discouraging, to me as a Christian, who keeps my faith & belief to myself. I don't know if the Koch brothers are actually part of the "us" or not, or most likely, they are just using those such as Walker to fulfill their evil ambitions. I'm not telling any of the members on this site anything you do not know, but those out there who are lurking, just know, we know what you are up to.

"Fascism" was mentioned later on this thread, and I believe that is what this is. Religion and corporatism together taking over the state. Very very worrying.

20. Thanks for that northoftheborder. You got me to thinking about "one of us" in the description you
gave me and I went looking and found a reference to it I am going to us in a post:

God in Wisconsin: Scott Walker's Obedience
Friday February 25, 2011
By Diana Butler Bass

....This is the same sort of evangelical spirituality that shaped George W. Bush--and led to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Once you know God's direction, no change is allowed. Doubt opens the door to failure. Obeying Christ's plan is the only option. In this theological universe, hard-headedness is a virtue, compromise is the work of the Devil, and anything that works to accomplish God's plan is considered ethically justifiable.

In other words, the Catholic bishops and mainline pastors--as well as the Quakers, Jews, Buddhists, and others--who have been trying to convince the governor to shift course are pretty well preaching in the wind. Other than David Koch (fake or otherwise), Walker is listening to One Person and One Person only: Jesus speaking directly to him. God, evidently, has directed him on his current path. Scott's just trusting and obeying. He bears no responsibility other than that.

Unlike the Roman Catholics and traditional Protestants who have spoken on behalf of the laborers, Walker has no spiritual "check" on him, no authority other than the ones he hears in his own head, and no moral culpability in this situation. He's the good Christian soldier, just following God's lead.

And this is why Scott Walker's religion is actually dangerous in the public square. Because it lacks the ability to compromise, it is profoundly anti-democratic. Many faith traditions actually possess deep spiritual resources that allow them to participate in pluralistic, democratic, and creative political change. But those sort of traditions tend emphasize the love of God and neighbor over strict obedience to an unyielding Father God. Unlike the confident dictum of the old hymn, "Trust and Obey" is not the best way to govern a state.

18. How did the Dem candidate not find that out and hit him with it?
He won by four lousy percentage points. Surely that would have been enough to drive some independents toward the Dem.
