CH3000: Madison Police Chief angered of Walker comments in prank call
Edited on Thu Feb-24-11 11:08 AM by HereSince1628
Chief Wray Wants Explanation Of Walker's Consideration Of Planting Protesters

Posted: 9:37 am CST February 24, 2011Updated: 9:53 am CST February 24, 2011
MADISON, Wis. -- Madison Police Chief Noble Wray wants answers from Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

<snip>

In a statement released Thursday, Wray said: “I spent a good deal of time overnight thinking about Governor Walker’s response, during his news conference yesterday, to the suggestion that his administration ‘thought about’ planting troublemakers among those who are peacefully protesting his bill. I would like to hear more of an explanation from Governor Walker as to what exactly was being considered, and to what degree it was discussed by his cabinet members. I find it very unsettling and troubling that anyone would consider creating safety risks for our citizens and law enforcement officers. Our department works hard dialoging with those who are exercising their First Amendment right, those from both sides of the issue, to make sure we are doing everything we can to ensure they can demonstrate safely. I am concerned that anyone would try to undermine these relationships. I have a responsibility to the community, and to the men and women of this department - who are working long hours protecting and serving this community – to find out more about what was being considered by state leaders.”

The newspapers would soon follow.

Today it just means that the media owned by the governor's supporters will spin the story.

Look for Fox to tell this story EXACTLY OPPOSITE of the events reported above.

81. Yes, but it's only one of the necessary elements.
Usually at least one of the conspirators has to take a tangible action in pursuit of the purpose of the conspiracy. It's not a crime to plan a huge bank job on paper, but as soon as someone rents a car to use as a getaway vehicle, then the crime of conspiracy is complete. Now, if it comes out that a cabinet member called a Tea Partier and said, "get your people ready," and said Tea Partier drove around collecting his buddies, then we might have something . . . .

dispel any notion that Walker and he were in cahoots. I wonder if the he would have obliged Walker had the incriminating conversation not been recorded. Hard to know but it feels great to witness this turn of events.

from this one. He had multiple offenses (not even talking legalities, but from accepting a call when he won't talk to others to "considering" causing trouble for what has been peaceful and democratic to "gee, sure thing" about a trip to California).

Walker needs to be reminded just WHO he is supposed to be working for: the people of Wisconsin (yes, I know who he REALLY works for). But I really don't think this whole prank call should just be allowed to be swept away.

Great to see that a police chief is acting on behalf of the people and not willing to overlook this kind of thing.

Good for him! I hope he hauls the Gov. in for questioning to find out who he was talking about in that conversation, who wanted to plant trouble-makers in the crowd. It would be good to have some more names.

47. Note the wording in Walker's reply to "Koch":
In response to prankster's question, Walker said: "You know, well the -- the only problem -- because we thought about that … My only fear would be is that if there was a ruckus caused is that would scare the public into thinking the governor's got to settle to avoid all these problems. Where I've said, 'We can handle this. This is Madison, full of the '60s liberals. Let 'em protest.'"

His only problem -- his only fear -- would be that the ensuing instigated violence would backfire on him, and result in the public calling for him to make concessions in order to end it.

NO CONCERN FOR THE ACTUAL VICTIMS OF THE INSTIGATED VIOLENCE, whether they be civilians or police officers.

Rec'd.

"As the Governor was apparently actively considering instigating either 'incitement to riot' or 'obstruction

him, he should explain, immediately and in detail, just what it is he 'considered,' with whom, on whose initiative,
and to what extent his plans were developed before he reconsidered."

50. It's also admitting that perpetrating a FRAUD ON THE PUBLIC is s.o.p.
Making peaceful protesters appear to be violent is deliberatly selling the public on a LIE. LIES, LIES, LIES. It's all about the LIES. That's the only way these Rethugs get people to vote against their own interest. All the LIES added up amount to extensive ideological brainwashing.

The public has to be shown the deep, pervasive, and ongoing FRAUD that is being waged against it. This shows it. And it shows how casual the Rethugs are about it - it's what they do all the time, like it's no big deal...

Like creating a false "budget crisis" as a pretext for union-busting. Like handing public power plants to a billionaire. Like the fraud that cutting taxes on the ultra rich is anything but financial suicide. Like globalism, outsourcing, all of it. It's all a massive CON on the public.

This shows that these Rethugs (and fellow traveler Dems) are amoral sociopaths, hiding in holier-than-thou religious sheeps' clothing, while getting paid big bucks to engineer massive theft against the entire public. It's nothing but mechanized crime. And until the public knows that, and admits it to themselves enough to vote against it in crushing numbers, the destruction will get worse, and worse, and worse. Mass theft is never going to work out well, or bring prosperity.

We have enemies alright, but they are not who we are being told, and that's the big news (to some people, to those who don't know it). It's all about the LIES. We have to seize this moment to show that, and never let go of it. Walker should be made the posterboy of it.

57. Good for him for speaking up.
His points are important, why foment violence where there is none, for a photo op, and PR points?
The open communications he has with all sides are hugely important and Walker should learn a lesson about listening, blanching priorities, showing respect for people's right and compromising from a man who is doing just that.

Back in the late 60's (spring '69 I’m pretty sure) a couple of hundred students from the University of Texas (a Bible Belt conservative state) walked the mile from campus to the capitol building in Austin. They stood outside the front of the building (the S. side that faced away from UT campus) and gave speeches and chanted.
The Austin cops decided they had to protect the down town business district, which begins just across the street on that side (S side) of the Capitol though there was no reason for the students to carry the protest beyond the point they had reached and no indication that that was their intention.
So the cops lined up charged the demonstration and started firing tear gas.
The students fled (it was the spring of the Kent State and Jackson State murders) around the sides of the building and through the building across the rotunda and out the back door. The cops followed firing tear gas canisters, breaking the historic etched glass of the front and back doors and releasing tear gas canisters inside the capitol building.

In a later occurrence that same spring, the Austin cops decided, uninvited, to clear the UT Student Union on campus of students, though they had no jurisdiction on campus property and no legal justification. They charged through and blocked all the doors simultaneously and trapped many hundreds of students inside, ordering them to clear the building. Since the students couldn’t exit the building because the cops had them blockaded in, pandemonium resulted. The cops got to beat up a bunch of them and arrest them for failure to follow police orders, or for resisting arrest, which the cops didn’t have the authority to do.

Now imagine a combination of these two scenarios inside and outside the Wi. Capitol building, and you can understand why the Chief is so concerned about thugs providing confrontations.

62. Chief Wray is an honest broker...
I am impressed with some law enforcement officials of late; first AZ, now WI.

looks like Walker is making a ton of enemies compared to the 1 ounce of "friends" he might have.

I tried to find a "loophole" in the WI Constitution about recalls, I was thinking that "gross negligence" or criminal activity could be used to circumvent the 1 year requirement before recall, but there was nothing overt. Some legal eagle might know of something that could be used, but in any case, if the good people of WI don't oust this clown after his first year is up, they will see another 3 years of this jerk.

Right now, 8 R's could be recalled, and I have not heard anything about petitions in their districts, but if I lived in one, I'd be going door to door in said district asking for signatures...I suspect that the required # of signatures would be exceeded very shortly. Want to make these idiots squirm, get people out there with recall petitions!

GO WI!!!

Just thought I'd mention it in case people didn't hear. Nice to be seen.

65. Honestly...
Why would you even mention that you were thinking about doing something like this when you hold a public office. What kind of idiot -- a republican -- would actually think this would be taken well?

What kind of douchebag -- someone who wants to unseat unions -- would actually see nothing wrong with potentially citing a riot? Even if the thought of letting that potentially happen is a fleeting thought?

75. Starting an incident in a massive crowd
could lead to a stampede with many casualties.

Hosni Wanker is guilty of the shouting fire in a crowded theatre principle.

Even considering such a thing should be against some law.

Keep in mind that our side received an attaboy from the police! I think they take PEACEFUL seriously!

we the one doing the blaming.
