Bahrain: Royal Horror.

As the reports mount, it's difficult to find words to describe this barbarous "Royal Family".

1 As protesters attempted to converge on Pearl Roundabout, a landmark in the capital Manama that has become the principal rallying point of the uprising, snipers stationed in a nearby skyscraper opened fire. There was no warning.

2. Police and Soldiers confronted the protesters, firing live ammunition and tear gas canisters directly into the crowd.

3. Some protesters hit the deck, but the fire continued: "Everybody was on the ground. They were shooting at the heads and chest ... We were chanting, 'peaceful, peaceful,' "

4. Chaos ensued. People ran in every direction, terror and disbelief flashed across their faces. One man shouted: "They are killing our people! They are killing our people." Cowering behind a wall, a woman wept, her body shaking in fear.

5. But even as they fled in headlong panic, a helicopter sprayed gunfire at them and more fell.

6. Paramedics from ambulances that had rushed to the scene darted forward to help the wounded, but they too were shot at. Several were detained and at least one ambulance was impounded.

7. The Youth President of the Bahrain Society of Human Rights said he saw injured being pulled out of ambulances, kicked and beaten.

8. Later a doctor described a hundred bodies dumped at the side of the road near the hospital. Security police were preventing medical staff from attending to them.

9. The hospital is locked down by check points, manned by the security forces. Some unwounded demonstrators have taken refuge there.

10. Speaking on Bahraini TV, Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa said the calm must be restored immediately. He pledged to hold an inclusive national dialogue as soon as possible.
