House votes to defund Planned Parenthood??
I hate these motherfuckers...I really do.
Why do I have to breathe the same air they breathe?

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

The U.S. House of Representatives has just voted to bar Planned Parenthood health centers from all federal funding for birth control, cancer screenings, HIV testing, and other lifesaving care.

It is the most dangerous legislative assault in our history, and it cannot go unanswered. We — Planned Parenthood and the three million women, men, and teens who are at risk of losing access to basic care — need you to stand united with us now.

Sign our open letter to every single representative in the House who voted for this cruel, unconscionable, unthinkable law, and to every senator who still has a chance to stop it.

5. It's truly mind boggling. They worship the embryo, but
defund contraceptive services that will prevent abortions. Not to mention potentially life-saving cancer screenings.

8. Anyone with any voodoo powers

needs to send some juju - "may any male house member who voted to defund Planned Parenthood find that their equipment won't work no matter how much Viagra they consume." They want to mess with women? They better watch out. Our collective pissed off mojo may come calling....

They have no idea what this means to so many women...but then conservative politicians seem to feel like Scalia - we don't really qualify as "persons."

Will sign the letter and encourage everyone to send Planned Parenthood a donation. They do good work without judgement or charging a fortune. Women need low-cost reproductive care, and if the HOuse wants to deny them that basic right, we must help fund it until they get some sense.

10. I signed PP petition to my Senator
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 05:54 PM by HockeyMom
I was also asked for my title, which I put in bold letters MRS. How about THAT? Married woman with CHILDREN who supports PP and is PROCHOICE.

When my husband was out of work over a year and we had two young children, PP gave me scripts for BC Pills for FREE. At that time in our lives, the last thing we wanted was another mouth to feed. I suppose I should have just "crossed my legs" to my husband in a time when he was very, very depressed, and just trust in god. No, we were RESPONSIBLE ADULTS and wanted to do whatever necesssary to avoid bringing another child into this world, which we didn't want and couldn't afford.

When my husband did finally get another job, we did three things; donate to the food pantry, donate to PP, and as soon as his health insurance kicked in, he got a vasectomy.

They are totally CLUELESS to the real world these stupid legislators. BTW, they can take THEIR morals and THEIR religion and shove it.

14. 99.99% of what Planned Parenthood does has absolutely NOTHING to do with Abortion
It's providing Gyn/OB healthcare for women who can't afford it. This healthcare can help catch certain cancers before they become life-threatening and costly. They can help assure that a mother can deliver a healthy child into this world. It can provide all sorts of birth control that satisfies just about any religious need and can provide testing for STDs including HIV.

It's a shame we're taking that away from mostly poor women. Studies have shown that women without pre-natal care tend to run higher risk with carrying their baby. Studies show that cancers of the Uterus, Ovaries, Cervix and Breast are very very treatable if caught early. And studies show that if HIV is detected early it is treatable (not curable).

Shame they think so little about that because of the other 0.01% of what they do

Yes, PP mostly does gynecological care for women. Contraception, HIV and STD tests, PAP smears, breast checks, etc etc etc.

15. Some self-loathing woman was on Hardball lauding this cruel move.
Tweety was getting really mad at her because she wouldn't answer his questions and she kept bringing up some video that sounded like a clone of the ACORN video. I think that video needs to be investigated because it sounds like another piece of fabrication used to go after funding for services for poor women.

These people disgust me. They claim to hate abortion, but then de-fund contraceptive services.

32. Well, only sluts have sex!
>They claim to hate abortion, but then de-fund contraceptive services.<

They don't believe in birth control.
They don't believe in abortion - well, till their daughter gets pregnant, and then it's off to the OB/GYN's office for a quick and quiet abortion.

After all, if other women have sex, you should get pregnant, and you'd better deliver that child. :sarcasm:

Ladies - again, I'm not kidding - I'm going to start asking every woman I know that is married or sleeping with a Republican why she does so. Let's put it in terms even THEY can understand: They HATE WOMEN. God forbid that we should have health care, that we should have a choice whether or not to bear a child, and that we should have the financial wherewithal to make our own decisions in life.

Or the override.

28. If I got outraged every time one branch passed something and the other didn't ...
The point is that it's an agreed upon method of doing nothing while placating the mob at home. By both sides.

kabuki

But it's clearly worth paying attention to. Don't misunderstand me.

Women are the majority in this country now. We vote.

I won't forget what happened today, even if the Senate "wipes it out" later. Those who voted against women's reproductive freedom in the House today need to be primaried as soon as humanly possible, IMHO.

26. This can not be overriden by Obama
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 07:38 PM by ProgressiveProfessor
Since it is not in the budget, his only choice would be to veto the entire budget. I don't see that happening over just Planned Parenthood funding.

The Senate can put it in their version of the budget and then it would go to a combined committee where the horse trading will be done. It may make it in the final bill, it may not. Undoubtedly there will be bigger issues to be addressed at that time.

33. kick for all the wonderful things that Planned Parenthood does. HIV/STD/PAP tests
contraception, pregnancy tests for women can get started on their prenatal care, many other types of tests and exams including thyroid. Yes, a tiny part of what they do is abortions but it is a fraction.
