What's happened to truth-out.org?
All I'm getting is a "site offline" message...

Hopefully it's a scheduled outage?

1. I got an email from them a few hours ago
Dear Truthout Community,

On Wednesday afternoon, Truthout published a major investigative story I’d spent the past two months working on. The report centered on the brutal torture of one of the first Guantanamo detainees, Australian David Hicks.

Hicks, who has never spoken publicly before, has been bombarded with interview requests from major media organizations around the world. But he turned them all down and granted Truthout his very first interview, because of the groundbreaking work we have done over the past several years to spotlight the crimes committed in our name.

My conversations with Hicks and the two Guantanamo guards who came forward to support his account took an enormous toll on me, and resulted in one of the most difficult stories I have ever written.

What sets Truthout apart from our media colleagues is that long after the 24-hour news cycle has stopped paying attention to a crucial issue, we continue to hammer away. I'm so grateful to work for an independent news organization that understands and values the importance of sticking with the story. And I'm truly appreciative of you, our incredibly loyal readership, for making these efforts possible.

In order to keep doing this work, Truthout needs your support. We must raise about $27,000 more to make our budget for this month. Please help us continue the fight by making a tax-deductible donation today.
