1. True.
And so are most red state governors.

Watch your back in Ohio!

4. Governments and busineses shouldn't have a say as to whether
employees can belong to a union. The question is whether government or businesses should recognize such an organization. And it should be a foregone conclusion that it would be in the best interest of the government or business or recognize the union.

8. Given your wish in the subject, companies would be free to hire anyone to replace you at any time
and in today's job market wages would plummet.

9. I am trying to throw a phrase back at those who want government out
of everything but then use government to force their own agenda. However, you may have a point. It takes government to back up the laws that protect the rights of people to organize. My main point is I don't want government taking away my rights by limiting collective bargaining.

10. Is the right to collective bargain a right that govt. is obligated to protect or a privilege granted
by government?

11. Government recognizes the right of workers to organize. It is part of the law.
I believe Government is required to protect that right. Government in this country is supposed to be the people, but too often members of the government get bought off and don't work for the people.

12. So collective bargaining is a privilege granted by govt and govt can take it away. Glad we got that
cleared up.

13. That is not what I said at all.
Look at it this way: government recognizes contracts. Government upholds contracts as a matter of law. Government recognizes union contracts and the way they are negotiated. It has been this way ever since unions won THE RIGHT to collectively bargain.

14. We must always be on the watch to make sure government doesn't try to take our rights.
That is why the situation in WI concerns me.

18. Do you mean inalienable rights enumerated in our Constitution that pre-exist it and in no way depend
upon it for legitimacy?

Or perhaps unenumerated rights covered by the Ninth Amendment?

I hope you don't confuse privileges granted by a simple majority vote of elected representatives with the rights I cited above because privileges granted by a simple majority can be taken away by a simple majority.

16. No. I want state govt to balance its budget without taking away rights.
Maybe he should try doing it within the law of collective bargaining instead of ramming a law down everyone's throat. Did you hear his pathetic excuse for not doing that? He said he had nothing to offer. Well, wouldn't that have been the honest way to approach it? Just say that, instead of stringing people along without a contract. Maybe if he had been up front about things he could have accomplished things within the existing laws.
