I understand the Republican deficit reduction proposal of $64 billion reduction isn't good enough for Tea-partiacs.
Have I got a deal for them. Here's a way to reduce the deficit $100 Billion in two years. Will they take it? Will the Republicans show they are serious about reducing their deficit?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/10/freshmen-repub... IF the GOPers are really serious about reducing the deficit (and they aren't really just out to kill off the incipient recovery from this REPUBLICAN DYSTOPIA were in) they should jump at the chance to reduce the deficit $100 Billion in 2 years, or $154 billion in 3 yrs.
What Democrats should do is offer this proposal to the GOPers: repeal the most onerous sections of the "tax cuts for unemployment extension" deal. Namely: Repeal the extension of tax cuts for those who can survive without them. Repeal the estate tax cuts. Repeal the Capital Gains tax cuts.
This would result in a deficit reduction in two years of $107 Billion.

If you think this is a good idea please email and call your representatives and urge them to offer this deal to the GOPers with the question: "Are you serious about reducing the deficit, or do you just want to kill the recovery from this REPUBLICAN DYSTOPIA?" Is anybody up to sending an email or calling your Congressman? If enough people call and email we might see a Democrat make this proposal on the floor of Congress which would require Congressmen to vote for it one way or the other. Then we would see just how serious Republicants are about reducing the deficit. Then their might be something to listen to on the evening news other than: "The Republicans are saying PResident Obama didn't go far enough in reducing the deficit.", or: "the Republicans are saying we must reduce the deficit or Obama will break the country.", "Republicans say the Democrats are irresponsibly raising the deficit", ad infinitum.
Think it's worth the time and trouble to send an email, or make a phone-call (or do both)? ... or you can leave it to the Tea-partiacs to run wild in Washington. My feeling is, if you fight the forces of ignorance and hypocrisy, even if you don't win a particular battle, you will feel better for having gotten into the fray. (It beats giving up before you've begun!).www.congress.org makes it easy to send an email to your congressmen. check it out! Just enter your zip in the input field next to the words: "Find your lawmakers, tell them what you think."
