Wisconsin Labor Jams Capitol To Resist Governor’s Attacks
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 12:27 PM by nadinbrzezinski
Wisconsin’s new Republican governor inadvertently issued a wake-up call to the state’s labor movement by announcing legislation February 11 that would crush public employee unions.

Scott Walker made the proposals just two days after similar measures were unveiled in Ohio.

Wisconsin’s labor movement and allies mobilized three days of emergency rallies in Madison, the state capital, ahead of an expected vote in the legislature February 17. Thirty thousand drumming, chanting protesters descended on the Capitol February 16. Some made plans to camp out there that night.

Building trades members planned to set up a grilling operation to feed bratwurst to workers and students there.

Ah I am so happy to have found a LABOR paper. Now this is not a minor thing. This is the beggining of something. Realize, historically the Great Depression saw a lot of worker discontent, from the Bomus March to far less known actions. What led FDR to the New Deal was exactly that. I fear that DC once again will not wake up to the people and the peoppe's needs until this becomes quite endemic. Thankfully our Governors don't understand history, so guess what? It should become quite endemic.

Now Mr. President, wake up and smell the coffee. This is just the begining. It will not stop. Workers around the country are waking up, and godammit they will fight back. Yes union membership might be low, but I suspect it will not stay as low as it has. Also realize that this middle class lifestyle comes from GOOD UNION jobs, that are just that enough to make a living. It seems that is a problem for some. So realize, the time is now.

8. Todays goal is to have more than 30K...I wish I could be there
but I spent most of next week's grocery money to get there on Tuesday!

Losing an election does not mean unconditional surrender by the losing parties. The fight to maintain the UN recognized Human Right to collective bargaining is never ending.

11. I also listened to We Shall Overcome while I was there - had a hard
time bringing the old enthusiasm up though. How was it that we saw things as so hopeful back then? It isn't like we did not know the things we know today - we just thought we could find the answers for all of them.

12. We had the answers back then too. Our mistake was that we underestimated
both the power and the malevolence of the enemy. We didn't understand that it would take the focused collective will of all the normal non-psychopathic people on earth to stand up to it. I think we realize that now. After all, we've had over 30 years for the lesson to sink in.

14. Absolutely true. I'm reading "The Shock Doctrine" now,
so I'm only now getting a handle on the blueprint--several decades too late. But hopefully not quite too late.
