Chris Rock on the Tea Party - They’re going crazy. They’re insane.
By PATRICK GAVIN | 2/17/11 8:17 AM EST Updated: 2/17/11 9:12 AM EST
In the March issue of Esquire, comedian Chris Rock takes a swing at the tea party.

Rock is interviewed by writer Scott Raab.

"Like many nice Caucasians, I cried the night Barack Obama was elected," said Raab. "It was one of the high points in American history. And all that’s happened since the election is just a sh—storm of hatred. You want to weigh in on that?"

"I actually like it, in the sense that—you got kids?" asked Rock. "Kids always act up the most before they go to sleep. And when I see the Tea Party and all this stuff, it actually feels like racism’s almost over. Because this is the last—this is the act up before the sleep. They’re going crazy. They’re insane. You want to get rid of them—and the next thing you know, they’re f—-ing knocked out. And that’s what’s going on in the country right now."

10. No kidding.
It's just the WORST of America. The WORST. I can't even imagine what people in other countries must think of us all flipping out like this and screaming and bellowing to go back to the 50's - or farther.

Awful. I didn't think things would seem worse about this country than they were in the last decade under bush/cheney, but they are.All the ugliness most of us pretend we've outgrown - it's all back in our faces again.

3. "Kids always act up the most before they go to sleep. "
I so love his analogy of teabaggers as kids throwing a temper tantrum before sleep overtakes them. Hilarious.

4. I remember saying almost the exact same thing
a few years ago when I was one of the lucky ones to have their comment read on-air by Cafferty. The question regarded the teabaggers and what the future held for them, and my response was that they would go the way another all-white, hate-filled, reactionary group went -- to the dust bin to join their KKKK buddies.

7. My husband tells me all the time, "in 10 years the teabaggers will be gone...
most of them are older and in poor health and they will be gone." Now of course there are also young teabaggers, but I think when a certain percentage of them have died off, maybe they won't be able to replenish their ranks. That's my hope anyway. My husband is convinced they will be gone as a movement within 10 years and I try to listen to him and take some of his optimism to heart.

11. I hope he's correct. I keep thinking about the proverbial pendulum that's supposed to
swing, inevitably, back the other way. I'd still believe it if the deck didn't seem so horribly stacked against us anymore. There are some days when I wake up with nothing but discouragement about the state our country is in.

8. I don't know...I think it is best to let them stay around for a long time...
They are keeping the Republicans in a turmoil. They don't know how to handle them and they are causing a divide. Let them stick around for a while. They'll self-implode.

In the meantime, it's fun to watch.

9. From your lips to Gawd's ears, Chris. I'm so ready for people to finally get a clue.
Do they think...what...that maybe the rapture will come and "save" them from about 90% of God's people who have darker pigments in their skin? I'm so ready for this whole planet to quit with the damned racism, misogyny, ignorance. This is the 21st century for gods sake. All people are created equal.

Tea Party = Crazy Children. Nice analogy.

15. I'd like to believe he's right, but I feel dubious.
Humans have a built-in susceptibility to racism. I don't think it's something we'll ever win final victory over.
