WOW..Angry Dem. Rep. George Miller shoots back at Savannah Guthrue re: "Tough decisions" on Budget
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 10:07 AM by whathehell
Wow..Just Wow.

"Taking on poor people and children -- that's not tough..You know what's 'tough'? -- cutting from

the wealthy, because THEY can fight back -- Children and poor people can't".

I am paraphrasing somewhat, having just watched California Congressman George Miller who sits on the Committee on Education and Labor

take on MSNBC Daily Rundown's Savannah Guthrie when, during a discussion of budget cuts to Head Start and other social programs the MSNBC

host said "These cuts are hard, right?...They hurt, but we have to

make tough choices because we're broke, right"?

Congressman Miller was visibly angry when he shot back "Taking money from

poor people and children -- That's not tough. You know what's 'tough'?

taking from the wealthy because THEY can fight back -- Children and poor people can't".

I tell you it was a THING of Beauty...Something I've been waiting to hear from Democrats for a LONG time!...He went on

a little while, too, and Chuckie and Savannah couldn't really respond so they changed the subject.

..Go Congressman Miller!:yourock:

7. They are...but what's important here, I think, is that
they were simply "doing their job" of pushing what's becoming the "National Meme"

Oh gee..These cuts are "tough" but we've got to make them"...Bullshit...Miller was

terrific in saying EXACTLY what we all want to say...Cutting programs for the poor

and middle class is NOT tough..What's tough, obviously, is cutting the powerful WEALTHY.

Good going Congressman!

16. I know what you mean about expecting more from MSNBC but
They're pretty much "same ole, same ole" until Cenk comes on at 6pm.

25. What gives them the benefit of the doubt...
As journalists, they are supposed to be adversarial. Tough questions to a person like Miller, is like a fast ball down the middle to a major league slugger. It's his chance to score a home run, which he did.

Soft questions are an intentional walk.

Let's say neither is overly sentient. He is oily. She seems to be chewing gum, even if she's not.

2. Big K & R for Congressman Miller.
I dealt with a wonderful young staffer in his office during IDEA reauthorization. He's always been one of my favorites.

13. Yup..
I would have enjoyed it more if either she or Chuckie would

have looked more distressed, but I guess they "prepare" for this stuff

Nonetheless, It was great when the congressman said "You've said it a hundred times".

I'm not sure exactly what he was referring to, but he was in the process

of "taking down" her "tough decisions" line.

17. Sent Rep. Miller a message of support
"Thank you for standing up to Savannah Gutherie when she parroted the popular idea that we "have to cut" programs for the least able to absorb cuts. You nailed it when you said it is tough to take money from the wealthy because they can fight back. As s life long Democratic voter, I wish more of our Congressmen and women would stand up for the little people as you did."

19. You might send
Savannah an email too. She may care enough to think about what you write. Chuck Todd would be a waste of time. Looking forward to seeing the video.

I'm so sick of the bullshit line about "tough choices"...

It's great that Miller finally pushed back at it...Maybe guts

are contagious..Who knows?..We certainly need to see more of it.

20. Chuck Todd is a chinless wonder in a nice suit.
He is going with the Beltway Full employment Program by never ever ever questioning the DC cocktail party "conventional wisdom".
