WI: Cieslewicz calls emergency council meeting to extend city employee contracts
Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz has called an emergency City Council meeting for Thursday to pass contracts and contract extensions so all city labor unions would have settled deals through 2012.

The action comes in the wake of a plan by Gov. Scott Walker to prohibit public employee unions from bargaining labor issues other than wages.

The mayor has also ordered the city's lobbyist to make opposition to Walker's bill his top priority.

The mayor said he is meeting with council leadership Monday afternoon and has scheduled a special department and division heads meeting for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.
