Stoughton high school students walk out of class to protest Walker’s moves
STOUGHTON — About 100 Stoughton High School students walked out of class Monday morning in protest of Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal to limit the collective bargaining of public employees, including teachers. The students walked across the street to the parking lot of Stoughton United Methodist Church, where they signed a petition. Several students gave speeches while standing in the bed of a pickup truck.

Also Monday, about 10 students at Sun Prairie High School held a “walk-in” to show their support for teachers.

“As faculty came walking in the doors we welcomed them and cheered for them,” said Zack Henderson, a Sun Prairie High School senior who organized the event that started around 7:15 a.m. “(Teachers) were so happy students were standing up and saying something.”

Students at East High School are planning a protest Tuesday during school hours in which they plan to march to the Capitol.

3. Good for them!
That takes real courage. You don't often see it, esp. at such a young age.

Recommended.

5. U of Wis.-Madison students march on gov's office
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Hundreds of University of Wisconsin-Madison students and their teachers are telling Gov. Scott Walker to drop a bill that would strip most public workers of almost all their collective bargaining rights.

Chanting "kill this bill" and brandishing signs with messages such as "From Cairo to Madison Workers Unite." the students and instructors jammed the corridor leading to Walker's Capitol office. They poured valentines on the desk of Walker's office guard that asked the governor not to break their hearts.

UW-Madison law student Peter Rickman shouted through a bullhorn the protesters wanted to show their love for UW. After chanting and stomping the floor for a few more minutes, the protesters marched outside without incident. Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie didn't immediately return a message.

7. Back in Autumn of 2002 I was teaching in a Northern VA elementary school. Our school ...
was situated just about 1 mile from the Home Depot where Linda Franklin was murdered by the D.C. sniper. Every day, for weeks, we (the teachers) formed a corridor from the school buses to the front entrance so that children would feel safe as they entered the building. Later, after it was over, I will never forget the day when parents and children arrived at school an hour early (the time when our contracts began). They stood in the parking lot, cheering and applauding; bearing flowers, cards, and breakfast for every one of us. Lots of tears that day.

8. I hope they do the same thing here in Indianapolis...
Teachers don't seem to have much of a say in education these days.
