The President isn't really cutting LIHEAP. He's just bringing it back to
100 million less than 2008.

And the spike in fuel prices is over.

OK. Fine. You want to believe that, believe it, but it's not even close to the reality.

Here's the reality. Heating oil prices are way up and most people in the Northeast use heating oil. Granted that's not true in other places.

Far more people now need help with fuel costs than they did in 2008. That's reality.

Just because some heating fuels have decreased in price this year, doesn't mean that will be true next year.

Cutting LIHEAP: The Wrong thing to do.

1. thank you but I think it's 200 million less than 2008 levels
FY 2008 ran from October 2007 through September 2008, which means that level of funding was 3 1/2 years ago.

24. he's bringing it back to 1920's levels. Gilded age and all don't you
know. I hope I don't need to add a sarcasm thing. Frankly, cutting it AT ALL is bullshit. He sided with the scum of the earth when he didn't do anything about the zillionaires welfare check so he is what he is. Cold, indifferent. A death is the accumulation of a zillion small cuts. Someone is going to be cold or die from cold who wasn't covered by that 'mere' 100m$.

3. Could you please source your information, I will call the Obama admin full of it once I see the data
...but right now people are making claims and not sourcing their information from credible sources.

Bloomberg isn't credible IMHO and to prove such he sources 2010 prices and not winter 2008-2009 prices.

4. Oh, so Leahy and Sanders are credible? Cool. Because that's who-
Bloomberg is quoting. And just because YOU don't like a source doesn't mean it's not credible.

Furthermore in your joke of a thread I provided plenty of sources.

YOU on the other hand have provided jack shit for sources for your claims and you brush off the entire NE and the facts provided.

6. Yup, I already posted in one of the other threads
That heating oil and propane are historically 10-20%+ higher than they were what the admin is "rolling back" the grant levels to.

5. Here ya go
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/hopu/hopu.asp

On the right hand side they have links to heating oil and propane prices (historical)...by month or week. The ones that look like an "n" in the circle are html links to the tables in case you don't have a PDF reader or Excel.

11. So why don't you provide a source?
All you've done today is run around asking people to do your work for you, and when people say, "Fine, then provide a source to the WH claims," you run off.

So, do tell: where is the WH getting the information needed to make this claim?

12. Oh, I see
So if the source doesn't agree with the "official" WH source, it's obviously bogus.

20. No, how about any official source link the one sourced below showing us now BELOW 2008-09 levels
...and I was stating a factual matter that the graphs shown weren't from the winter year sourced from the WH as the reason for the 50% increase in LIHEAP and their reasoning for the 50% reduction.

You're either seriously misinterpreting it or just outright lying hoping that no one will click the link.

13. Fuck it, I'll do it for you (again).
This person gave you the link to the data you're requesting. You clearly didn't read it.

http://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=W_EPD2F_PRS_NUS_DPG&f=W

It peaked in early 08, dipped slightly in 09, and now it's right back up there, even above 08 levels.

17. THANK YOU!! So the WH is right...not a lot but technically prices HAVE come down from that winter yr
Edited on Mon Feb-14-11 04:16 PM by uponit7771
...They're being a little sly with by not stating thy've almost come back but I'll take their word for it based off the data.

EDIT: The graph I'm looking at for current winter yr does not have prices above 2008 4.00+ a gallon levels....if I'm looking at it correctly

Again, thank you for the source.

Regards.

21. Are you even reading the chart?
EOY average 2008 = $2.33 per gallon
EOY average 2009 = $2.75 per gallon
EOY average 2010 = $3.11 per gallon

Average today = around $3.50

and the proposed funding is below 2008 levels.

9. And indexing the assistance entirely to heating fuel costs would only make sense
If the number of people requiring the assitance remained constant. We know that a lot of people's situations have gotten worse since 2009. Many states are claiming increases in applicants due to the economy and bad weather.

14. I wonder why that logic isn't used to roll back the tax cuts.
He could always just say, "I'm not raising taxes on the top 2%, just bringing them back to their old levels."

I know it wouldn't work, but it's telling that he can get away with that reasoning for LIHEAP, but not the tax cuts. I guess it shows which group lets him get away with that kind of reasoning, and which group doesn't stand for it.
