2. Sure thing, I have been trying to follow as close as I can on twitter and facebook, but...
information is almost completely shut off.

It's sad that Iran can't even get the word out like Egypt did... They are blocking internet searches for anything related to what's going on, arresting journalists, etc....

And the hardline religious folk are yelling death to jews... while the youth is yelling freedom for all.

3. The Iranian police will make the Egyptian police look like
the Keystone Cops by comparison, they don't bother with batons and rocks, they shoot first. It takes incredible courage to defy the powers that be in Iran. I hope they win this time, but it will be much bloodier than anything seen in Egypt.

10. according to cnn
"Reporting from Iran proved extremely difficult Monday, as foreign journalists were denied visas, accredited journalists living in the country were restricted from covering the demonstrations and internet speeds slowed to a crawl in an apparent attempt to limit both protest organizing as well as information being transmitted out of the country."

15. I don't know, but even in Egypt they blocked the networks and were
only showing the State two TV stations, so I'm guessing they're not letting any objective reporting get out at all.

That's why I'm encouraged to see the tweets! I take back all the disparaging remarks I made about Twitter. :7

11. Christiane Amanpour: Iranian Protesters Defy Police
As the world watches the demonstrations in various cities around the Middle East, I was interested to read this dispatch from an observer in Tehran: Early in the morning today the mood was set for the expected anti-government demonstrations in Iran as a brave protester climbed atop a crane in the center of Tehran and hoisted a green flag symbolic of the opposition green movement.

Just hours before, throughout the night residents in Tehran stood on their rooftops yelling "Allah-o-akbar," a tactic that anti-regime activists have used to covertly express their opposition to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

As the hour for the gathering drew closer, witnesses described security forces lining the streets around Azadi Square in Tehran today and groups of protesters gathering for the opposition march. The heavy presence of riot police wearing black masks and holding batons seemed to deter large crowds from forming according to eyewitness accounts.

Demonstrators describe streets and metros closed, tear gas being fired and sounds of gun shots. As they marched closer to the Azadi square area, with riot police speeding by on motorcycles, they were yelling "Death to the dictator."

Opposition leaders Mir Houssein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi were reportedly under house arrest and not allowed to join the protests.

Reporting from the streets was limited because authorities have forbidden journalists from covering the protests. Demonstrators from cities around Iran called into BBC Persia with reports of plainclothes police attacking people and scaring off crowds. One caller described a daughter begging police to leave her elderly mother alone.

Witnesses describe hundreds of people gathering in the towns of Isfahan, Shiraz and Mashad as well. Although the crowds were not as large as what viewers have seen in Egypt or the demonstrations after the 2009 elections, the turn out was significant for Iranians who have been warned by the commander of the police corps that if they showed up they would be "corpses."

12. Another live blog out of Iran
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/tehranbureau/2011/02/iran-live-blog-25-bahman-14-february.html

Iran Standard Time (IRST), GMT+3:30
9:55 p.m. The sun set over four hours ago in Tehran. We have reports that some people are getting blankets and food and trying to enter Azadi Square area to spend the night there. Elsewhere, the stream of new information has slowed down, so the live blog will be taking this opportunity for a bit of a rest itself. Thank you for following us during a long and interesting day. The full details of what unfolded today in Tehran and across the rest of the Iranian nation will take some time to emerge and we at Tehran Bureau look forward to bringing you those stories.

9:25 p.m. In addition to the various reports we have featured of tear gas being used against the protesters, AFP now reports that paintbull guns were used as well. More details:

Witnesses and websites said the opposition supporters had walked in scattered crowds silently to Azadi Square from several parts of the capital as policemen kept a sharp watch and tried dispersing them.
Riot police on motorbikes armed with shotguns, tear gas, batons, paintball guns and fire extinguishers were deployed in key squares in the capital to prevent the gatherings.

One witness said some demonstrators were chanting "Allahu Akbar!" (God is greatest) as they gathered around alleys near Azadi Square.

Another witness described how one group of demonstrators had walked silently from Imam Hussein Square to Enghelab Square. "They are being silent and trying to keep a low profile," the witness said.

9:15 p.m. According to the BBC, witnesses report streetlights being cut off and security forces beating people under cover of the dark.
