Upon a challenge from other DUers
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 12:12 PM by boston bean
to make a difference all by myself.....

I went over to twitter, created an account, set up hashtag #WeMarch26. My name there is WeMarch26.

I hope any Duer's who would like to march on Washington on March 26th, 2011, will follow me on twitter and help to make this happen. Our demand will be that We Want Our Jobs Back.

It started on the internet/twitter in Egypt, why can't it start on the internet/twitter in the good ole USA?

1. Well done. I would suggest that you say HOW you want jobs back...
...what exactly you want our "leaders" to do - be specific. Tax for outsourcing? What?

3. I think a simple message and masses to get our jobs back will work to get people there.
I don't think it should be mucked up by the politics of it all.

Think about it. All the republican ideas have failed. What is the obvious message here.

People can bring whatever signs they want. I am sure NAFTA changes would be huge.

5. If you're not specific, you'll just get platitudes from leaders about how they're...
..."doing all they can."

6. if there is a huge mass of people, they will get the message loud and clear
that what they have been doing sucks and isn't working.

I am very open to ideas, maybe you are right as others have said the same thing as you.

12. But it IS working for the wealthy and corporations...
...and that's who most U.S. politicians actually work for.

The people in Egypt knew exactly what they wanted and stood firm until the dictator left. imo to be successful Americans would have to be very specific about what they're asking for - can't worry about the politics of it.

Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 12:28 PM by boston bean
Like I said you might be right, I think it might get bogged down in the weeds and I think it's important to get people there. But your idea is good one.

on edit, we can make it be anything we want. We just need to start.

7. you might want to suggest a means by which we get our jobs back
instead of demanding an end result without any idea what the process would be.

Even something as watered down as "Fair Trade not Free Trade" would be a step in the right direction.

Good luck to you.. I will go to Twitter right now to follow.

Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 12:47 PM by Shagbark Hickory
With gas or airfare, hotel and that's to say nothing of lost work revenue.

It worked in egypt because everyone already doesn't have jobs and the country is a lot smaller.
And the powers that be ingore marches in washington now.

And what.. march for one whole day? The people in egypt camped out there.

IF you could get people to march in cities all over the country, day in and day out, then I think you'd possibly have something.
Even though I can't get to DC, I can go to the nearest urban core and march at least a few different times.

24. I'm there, BB. I suggest we revive a hashtag we had, #DemUnd
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 01:25 PM by Waiting For Everyman
Some of us were using it a while back but it went dormant. It would help us identify each other, at least until we get started. I think #du is being used as something else. (I was checking with hashtag.org etc. yesterday, looking for some tags to collect around. #corporatocracy and #democracy seem to be pretty good to use right now, except that the first one might be more US oriented.

Baggers are mostly using the tag #liberal, so it's best we don't advertize our plans to them. (At least at first.)

Actually the demand you stated in your OP would be a good one, #WeWantOurJobsBack. I just checked, it isn't being used. I'm already following hashtag.org on twitter, so my searching sort of registers it, or begins awareness with them that it's a search.

http://twitter.com/hashtags (that's the twitter account for http://hashtag.org) There are fakes.

27. Whenever you post anything, put #DemUnd or #demund at the end.
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 01:40 PM by Waiting For Everyman
That way, any of us can put #demund into the search window at the top of the home page, and all tweets with that same tag (that means from all of us) will come up.

You'll catch on. Write any question you have on your page, and me or someone else will answer. There's messaging too. I'm still learning myself, but this Egypt thing really got me more into it.

Hashtag #Egypt and/or #Jan25, #Feb11, #NewEgypt #EgyptCongrats just to look at what happens. Also there is a flow of tweets that come in on your homepage from anyone you are following. As you follow more people, they start rolling in pretty fast.

45. I see you found KO
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 06:58 PM by Waiting For Everyman
You can search FOK for Friend of Keith - there are a bunch of fan sites.

Look at who a person is following to pick up people you want to follow too. That way, you only have to click the name.

As to getting KO to follow you back, that's unlikely because so many people are following HIM. But who knows. You don't really need that though, you'll get anything he writes on your "Home" feed just by following him. Or you can just go to his page and look - in his case, probably a more efficient thing to do.

You can "Retweet" anything you like that someone tweets. So if he writes something you like, you can do that. Rollover some of the tweets and you'll see the button. Also there is "Reply" if you want to do that.

would be good. You could make a little gif with name/mission and dates so organizations could show support by easily putting it up on their page. You would need a landing page (with the particulars) for the gifs to link to. Just a thought.

47. That's really nice of you control-z!
i was thinking using a pic like this(you can crop it how you see fit):

The name of the blog is WeMarch26

But I would like the header to say "we want our jobs back".

I'm not fussy on the colors!

The size of the header needs to be 920 × 180 pixels

If you could make a more square pic as well that would be great. If not, that is aok. I know you don't have a lot of time!

Thank you so much for your kind offer and helping with this!
