Abortion Ban Bill Passes in ND House
Abortion Ban Bill Passes in ND House

Representatives approved anti-abortion legislation today. The bill not only bans abortion, but goes a step further and would ban the destruction of human embryos that are created when a woman`s egg is fertilized outside her body, known as in vitro fertilization.

The bill defines a human being in North Dakota to include the words: "At every stage of development."

Supporters of the bill say banning abortion preserves the dignity of human life.

Those in opposition had some questions about whether a mother would be protected if she had to abort the baby because of health reasons.

Others in opposition are concerned about the government interfering with a woman`s choice.

7. Hope not - we need others making choices for us. Without others making our choices,
whatever would we do?

God forbid, and I can tell you the horrors first hand of this - a bunch of old ladies go to a bingo hall (which raises money for charities) and smokes. Can't have that choice (cause, well, choice is for the few to GIVE the many). Someone else might not like their choice (or the choice of the hall to allow it), and since they can't make them change their choice, and since they won't open their own bingo hall, they will call up government to force others to make the choice THEY think is best.

Some people think having an abortion is a bad choice and want to control - so they should be encouraged to force people to make the choice they like.

10. Why do you always compare abortion with smoking? Seriously. It gets old.
You smoke in my presence and you harm me. I have an abortion in your presence (god help us both) and it does nothing to you.

17. I will explain to you why - because it has nothing to do with smoking
It has to do with choice, and if I support it on one issue, I should on another - yet so many here don't seem to value choice unless it is for abortions.

Smoking is the left's abortion, folks hate it, want to stomp it out, want to remove or punish a personal choice.

If you call being consistent getting old than I think you are the one with the problem.

19. I am fine with you smoking if you want to. Just don't do it where the smoke affects me.
That is the difference. If you chose to smoke, it is your body. As I would not force an abortion on anyone, you should not force your smoke on me.

If you cannot see the difference between personal choice and forcing it on others, you are the one with the problem.

20. Your choices end when they effect or harm other people the
issue with abortion is there are those that see or want to define 'other people' as a fetus so a woman aborting it is then 'wrong'. What supersedes the 'harm' to the fetus is that it is part of the woman's body, she has dominion over her body as you do with your own. Your smoking in other people's presence is effecting them which is where you doing what you want ends and you harming others occurs, you don't have dominion over other people as part of yourself.

I think it is okay to smoke if you want so long as you don't impose that choice on others through forcing them to 'love it or leave it' as well as taxing the products to offset health costs associated with their use and/or education/awareness programs.

Unless they are all going to be used? Oh brother.

BTW, how do they rightwingers explain the state of the soul of eggs in the freezer? Are they in limbo? Cold and wanting a trip to the Bahamas?

9. Frankly I'm surprised that one of these bills hasn't been passed through a state legislature,
And run up to the Supreme Court already. Given the nature of the Roberts court, I can see one of these bills being found "constitutional".

12. That is what they are trying to do. By the way, they are trying this shit here in WA state also.
You are a human with full rights as soon as the egg and sperm join. I doubt it will pass here but still.

They are hoping they will go to SCOTUS and be found constitutional, to get ROe v Wade's right to privacy overturned.

13. How disgusting
I trust that ND women would at least not be prosecuted if they travelled to another state to have an abortion? But still.

Are the North Dakota Republicans as concerned about the welfare of poor children who have already been born, as they are about pre-implantation embryos?

Government's job of watching the incubator is done.

18. It's about 85 miles from the border to the Women's Health Clinic in Winnipeg
http://www.womenshealthclinic.org/abortion

We provide our clients with safe, legal, and confidential services in a non-judgmental and supportive setting. Our team of doctors, nurses, counsellors and administrative staff are trained and experienced in providing compassionate and high-quality care. Our clinic is licensed and accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and maintains the highest standards of medical care.

Fees

If you live in Manitoba: If you have a current Manitoba Health card, the cost of the abortion is covered by Manitoba Health.

If you live outside of Manitoba: The fee is $500. You can pay by cash, debit or credit card.

------------

Unfortunately it will cost $500, but no fucking hassle.

21. Hmm..."dignity of human life". Like the dignity of those lives we've ended
in our wars for resources that belong to someone else? These people are sick.
