Just got this from a right-wing family member:
The first part of the email is untrue see http://www.news-leader.com/article/20101212/OPINIONS/12120320/Check+the+facts

Funnily enough I couldn't even find the claim on Fox News. It's shit like this that helps the right wing force thier agenda on all of us! Shouldn't we adopt the same tactics an force THEM to do fact checking on us??? I get tired of defensive fact checking!

Subject: Congress family members are exempt from having to pay back student loans.

Monday on Fox news they learned that the staffers of Congress family members
are exempt from having to pay back student loans. This will get national
attention if other news networks will broadcast it. When you add this to the
below, just where will all of it stop?

35 States file lawsuit against the Federal Government

Governors of 35 states have filed suit against the Federal Government for
imposing unlawful burdens upon them. It only takes 38 (of the 50) States to
convene a Constitutional Convention.

This will take less than thirty seconds to read. If you agree, please pass
it on.

This is an idea that we should address.

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress.
Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the
same pay after only one term, that they specifically exempted themselves
from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear
of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live
under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare
Reform... in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not
have an elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are
Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

If each person that receives this will forward it on to 20 people, in three
days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.
This is one proposal that really should be passed around.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall
make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not
apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall
make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does
not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

You are one of my 20.

7. You really would think after being debunked time after time the nit wits would
at least try to come up with new crap instead of trying the same old time after time. But then again these are the same nit wits who believe if a lie is told 3 times it becomes fact.

and you can't trust it.

That was debunked by politifact.com an factcheck.org

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/snopescom/

But the rightwingnuts don't trust anybody but Faux Snews and the author of the latest anonymous email they got from FWD/FWD/FWD.

12. Expect wierdness when you prod at core beliefs.
When challenged, their reception shuts down. You will witness classic psychological defenses because you have attacked at their personality. There are beliefs that cannot be false. Evidence which contradicts this is blocked from their consciousness. They actually cannot help being the wall you are talking to.

I also put the text of the newspaper article in my response for the lazy recipients.

Here is the text of my response:

Not True!!!! Below is my link and text of article refuting the un-truth in the original email. Where is there a link or article from the original sender to back up his/her claim? Can we check a few things out ourselves before sending these things to other people???? Google 'congressional family members and student loans' and you'll be amazed at what you find.

14. The only problem I see with this is THEY will not click on the links
They liked being spoon fed with misinformation. They don't like reading or debunking anything. That's how they remain uninformed voters. Willful ignorance is their motto.

But thanks for trying to get them to Think for Themselves. It's very unfortunate that they choose to remain ignorant.

What do you do when they spread lies with total impunity and 100% trust?

Edit to add: in what's basically a closed community that spreads across the country, with messages that may actually come from the Republican propaganda machine
