The American version of Tahrir Square
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 09:41 PM by kpete
For years, we have been trying to figure out what it will take to wake up the American government, Congress, powers that be and get them to return to the ethos of what this country – the United States – is supposed to stand for and exemplify. Instead of watching Obamaco Organizing For America and Move On lamely and pathetically try to suck up and pray the youth will come out and vote for centrist, status quo, Bush-Lite bullshit in 2012, maybe we should be telling and encouraging the youth to figure out where out where the American version of Tahrir Square is and helping them get there. It is the least we can do. Seriously.

Our generation has born the climate change deniers, Tea Party, evolution deniers, Andrew Breitbart and Fox News horse manure and propounded freaking Barak Obama as the hopey-changey salvation. In short, we are totally fucked. Turn the gig over to our kids and get out of the way. If Egypt has proven anything which can be taken home here, it is that we need to be talkin bout a new generation. We are done and have screwed the pooch big time; it is up to them, but we can help them and “prepare the battlefield”.

2. You're not going to convince huge numbers of Americans that Obama

is America's equivalent of Mubarak. What a joke.

So, unless the economic situation changes drastically from current conditions, you're not going to find America's youth gathering in the millions. Not while Obama is President.

5. Youth unemployment might get people out in the streets.
People in the age range of 18-30 got everything started in Egypt. Youth unemployment here is as bad as Egypt & when young people begin to realize they have nothing ahead of them but unemployment or minimum wage jobs, same thing will happen here. It will take more time here, my guess is that youth unemployment would have to hit about 35%.

It's right down the street at your local county election office, where a far rightwing-connected, private corporation is 'counting' all your votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code and virtually no audit/recount controls--and just gained an 80% monopoly over U.S. voting systems, all run on 'TRADE SECRET' code. (ES&S, which just bought out Diebold).

One.

Private.

Far-rightwing connected.

Corporation.

Using.

'TRADE SECRET' code.

To.

'Count.'

All.

Of.

Our.

Votes.

A short drive away right there in your own county. All the little Tahrir Squares, all over the U.S. of A.

7. As all of us boomers are forced to work until we are 70+, I'll
bet youth unemployment WILL skyrocket. I would agree with you, kpete, the time is long past for action to go to the street, and the young have to be more than primed to do so. Especially when even all the Wal*Mart jobs are gone.
