February 11, 1861. Lincoln begins his journey to the White House.
A day before his 52nd birthday, the President-elect boards the first of many trains that eventually (two weeks) lands him in the divided Nations Capital.
A day after Jefferson Davis becomes the first president of the Conferderate States of America. Fascinating items here. The haunting passage in the farewell speech about his return to Springfield.
