Video makers show Detroit's stray dog problem
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 04:14 AM by Genki
We DUers LOVE our pets. Please, will you help spread the word about this?

Many thanks, all.

"A California producer and metro Detroit rapper who were denied permission by the City of Detroit to film a Discovery Channel series about stray dogs said they've raised $7,000 from a video of strays they shot on their own -- money they say will help build a no-kill animal shelter in the city.

Their goal is to raise $50,000.

In January, Monica Martino used cell phones and a laptop to video-record rapper Hush driving around Detroit's dilapidated neighborhoods, finding, feeding and even giving rides to strays.

Hush was location manager of the proposed TV series "A Dog's Life," and said he spent six months scouting the city for strays.

Martino said Tuesday they were frustrated by the city's refusal for the series, and wanted to expose the extent of the stray dog population, estimated at *50,000* or _more_.

After four days on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-bxTO_Q-5k their video drew 50,000 hits and a load of donations

The city doesn't want people to know there's a stray dog problem. But there's a big problem," Hush says in the four-minute video."

1. I can not watch
But, I'm sure my imagination is much worse than the video.

K&R Please, please - spay and nueter. Adopt a pound puppy or grown dog. There is always a little puppy left in an older dog.

2. The video looks like a segment of 'Life After People.'
Detroit has fallen on hard times, for people and animals alike. This is tragic.

3. Our Dear Old Home Town! It needs all the help it can get!!
There is a recent trend to get all pissy about people filming the tragedy of the Motor City.
I say film it all show the world what happens when you send all the jobs to be done by in poor third world countries.

Fuck corporate Money Bags, show the poor animals and the sad city.
My heart goes out to the people of the third world, but a busted old Detroit does the world NO GOOD!

4. Tragic, yes
...and inexcusable. Last year there was a massive canine cull in Baghdad - a war zone - but this is The Good Ole USA. I just can't grok it. When did life become so cheap?
