8. He made her job considerably more difficult with reckless disregard for those consequences.
And, it seems, for venal rather than righteous reasons.

He is one of the most difficult anti heroes I have ever been asked to support.

Cool Hand Luke Bradley Isn't.

Assange fares a little better, if that is any consolation.

11. I agree. We shouldn't be celebrating him for leaking sensitive diplomatic
cables and interfering with peace efforts in places like North Korea.

Daniel Ellsburg also had the chance to release diplomatic cables and he resisted the temptation. Bradley should have done the same thing -- limited himself to documents related to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

28. Manning exposed illegal activity by the State Department so yeah,
her job was made more difficult. The question is, why is she conducting illegal activity out of the State Department and denying it?

That's a reflection on her operation, not on Manning, who turned to Wikileaks when he was told to shut up about processing prisoners out to certain torture at the hands of the Iraqis. I fail to see anything "venal" about that.

6. I would, and will, agree with the "whistleblower" characterization
...if, as some suspect, Manning is found guilty only of leaking the Iraq helo video. That is an act of whisteblowing.

However, if he stole and released the rest of the information he's accused of, no.

15. I believe
that he was privy to all information that he may have released.
I've not read anywhere that he stole anything.
If he did indeed release what he's accused of....he was following his conscience.

10. Leaking thousands of diplomatic cables endangers peace
around the world and is, and should be, a major crime.

If he had contented himself with releasing the Iraq/Afghanistan war documents, I would support him. But not under this situation.

16. No one knows 'who' released diplomatic cables
And I don't know anything about this peace around the world...

World is going to hell....
Mostly because of USA interference and military intervention.
I don't think he endangered any kind of peace.

Just the way I see it...

just as he is alleged to have taken the credit for the release of the war cables.

Yes, he's innocent until proven guilty.

18. Once again, the level of disinfo here is awesome.
The no. of cables released by The New York Times, The UK Guardian and other major newspapers of the world, as well as Wikileaks, totals less than 3,000.

This, out of 251,287 cables.

Wikileaks has not itself published any cable before one of its major newspaper partners published it. And none of them published any of it until they'd vetted it for truthfulness and redacted names so as to avoid any individual's being harmed by it.

In 4 years of operations, not one person is known to have been harmed by any Wikileaks publication.

Contrast that with over a million harmed (including thousands killed) by the lies WL seeks to help expose, re- Iraq and elsewhere.

Get real.

You can find some basic facts re- Wikileaks, WITH links to sources, at http://www.c-cyte.com/The_Case_for_Wikileaks.html .

It seems as though everything is attributed to Bradley Manning, a hero behind bars.
Too many define him as a traitor....here on DU of all places.

Thank you for posting the facts again.
No harm has been done by Wikileaks.
