We Need a Truth in Politics Law
Politicians have always played somewhat loose with the truth. But over the past few years. the right wing demagogues Palin, Beck, and Limbaugh, and untold others have carried the art of political deceit to a dangerous new level ... dangerous to the health of our democracy, dangerous to the lives of people they attack. This perversion of the right of free speech should not go unchecked. What we need is a Truth in Politics law.

1. Absolutely; the people have a right to know the truth and the only way to get the truth
to them is by a law mandating something where people like Palin & Beck cannot just say anything, deliberately lie for their own selfish political purpose.

3. Arrest Mr. Lincoln.
He ran on an explicit pledge not to interfere with the institution of slavery in places where it already exists.

Arrest Mr. Roosevelt. He made an explicit promise not to get any of our sons killed in foreign wars.

4. There's a big difference between a promise and a lie
It's possible to fulfill a promise. It's also possible to be prevented from fulfilling a promise.

A lie is a lie, and stays that way, in the ordinary case.

9. Pledges can be hard fought... and lost...
Not the same thing as saying there are death panels out to kill your granny, or that Obama is going to come into your house and take all your guns and lock you up in detainment camps while he locks and loads to kill your sorry ass. See the difference?

6. Heh, we're closer to having a Ministry Of Truth.
War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.
