The Tea Party and the Republican Party are one and the same. Forty percent of eligible voters voted in the 2010 Midterm elections. Most of those voters were Tea Partiers who elected Republicans into the majority at the Congressional and state levels. Republican elected officials campaigned on Tea Party chatter and are, now, governing on Tea Party chatter. So, when Republican elected officials say that the “American people have given them a mandate” make no bones about it - they are speaking DIRECTLY to the Tea Party.
At state and local levels, Republican elected officials are cutting police forces, fire fighters, education and social services for the middle class, the poor, and the elderly. At the Congressional level Republican Lawmakers are wasting OUR tax dollars crafting ways to take away legislation benefitting ALL Americans rather than creating legislation for job creation, veteran’s benefits, education, the unemployed, foreclosed homeowners, and social services for the middle class and the poor.
Instead of RESPONSIBLE AND TRUTHFULLY INFORMED governing, Republican elected officials at the state and Congressional levels are busy creating, promoting and catering to the Tea Party’s misinformed notion that the “government is too big”. Who do they think is subsidizing Medicare – the government? Who do they think is subsidizing Social Security – the government? Who do they think builds their roads, bridges, and highways – the government? Who do they think subsidizes the public education of their children and grandchildren – the government? Who do they think lights their streets at night – the government? Who do they think subsidizes social services for veterans, and the elderly – the government? Who do they think collects and disposes of their garbage – the government? Who do they depend on for assistance when their communities suffer from natural disasters – the government?
It is all too clear that as far as Republican elected officials at the state and Congressional levels are concerned, the Tea Party can quench their thirst for demonizing the government by drinking tea, while the MAJORITY of the “American people” can “eat cake”!
