The Grand parade of Mormons at the library's internet computers.
Edited on Mon Feb-07-11 12:55 PM by Democrats_win
As usual on Monday mornings, the computer internet room at the local library has been invaded by young men wearing black pants and white shirts. The Mormon "elders."

I think they have a perfect right to be here. Yet there is a problem when so many people from one organization comes in at the same time--why aren't they more considerate? The Mormon church is a very wealthy institution. Can't they afford to buy them lap tops so they can use the WiFi system at this library or even at private enterprise institutions? Are they really sacrificing when county taxpayers must help pay for their work? Truthfully, they are doing the work of a business--although it is a religious business. Oh well, more corporate welfare.

They know that after two years, they are done. This is in contrast to Jehovah's Witnesses who dedicate their lives to God and never stop. With Mormons, they will dedicate the rest of their lives to making money. Economically, no religion in the world is wiser at propagating their financial strength. Well done! Yet their "witness" is quite poorly done. Bring on the Jehovah's Witnesses! Don't forget that politically, the Mormon Church is very active. While these young men are using these computers, their politicians are doing everything they can to hurt the working class of America. I won't even talk about their war against gays.

1. I was going to compliment you on the clever "Morman" church spelling
I thought it was quite clever. Then . . . you go and "correct" it.

15. the OP originally had it spelled "Morman" - which is so appropriate for a religion
that has such limited roles for women - particularly in terms of church leadership.

2. Are some of them working on their mandatory family genealogy report?
Every Mormon in good standing has to research their ancestry, and from what my mom tells me most amateur Mormon genealogies are next to worthless. They're done to fulfill a church requirement, not out of a love of the subject.

3. Are you sure they're there for business?
When I was in Salt Lake City, a librarian told me that a lot of the young men using the computers were Mormons desperate to be in contact with the outside world, and the public library was a place where they could escape to, find information, and get out from under the thumb of religious authority.

11. They don't even let missionaries call their families, let alone get on the internet,

as far as I know. Their entire job for the two years is to proselytize. Family contact would detract from that.

And I think the genealogy research is pretty much for the wimmenfolk.

18. Wrong and wrong
They get one day off a week to write letters home (and do other stuff, laundry, grocery shopping, relax); in the modern world that translates to e-mails in many parts of the world.

All Mormons are supposed to be involved in geneology research; that said Missionaries generally aren't because they have other things they need to focus on.

4. Mormon Elders get one day off a week, so it's understandable
If they are using those computers, i assume it is to contact their families. There is an e-mail set up for the Elders to use for letters home and the like.

Actually Mormons are supposed to dedicate their whole lives to Christ, and they are supposed to continue spreading the Gospel. It's just that for two years the dedicate themselves to teacher, and then they return to the communities and lives and proceed into raising families.

12. One of the reasons I *kept* HBO
This season's even better.

Have you checked Netflix for back seasons? Most premium series devolve to Netflix after 6 months or so.

16. I had HBO for the past seasons - so am up-to-date up until the new season started
glad to hear it is better. It kind of jumped the shark last season - for a couple of episodes, anyway.

19. Yes, they've reined it in a little
The sub-plots of sub-plots were hatching sub-plots. They have to wrap it up somehow. I will miss those ladies when the series is over. Bill...not so much!

20. I like the Barb a lot - what an anchor -
And Margene is so refreshing.

But Nikki - wow - I wonder what Bill was drinking when he got involved there.

Anyway - can't wait until it hits Netflix.

The only thing better on TV is Mad Men.
