I have no problem with Arianna selling HuffPo to AOL for mega $$$, but I do have a problem. . .
. . .with her fake ass sanctimonious attitude. Its funny she calls Obama out for being a sellout, decries the too big to fail banks, etc. but at the end of the day she has her price.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a price, most folks do, but there is something wrong with the self righteous sanctimony that Arianna puts out there.

I will still follow HuffPo and I think there is a lot good that can come out of this, I just hope that Arianna comes off of her high horse.

1. Ever check out the comments on HuffPo?
It is amazing how corporatist the moderation is and has been for some time. Anything posted that even mildly moves from Arianna's stance on an issue is never even allowed to be posted. Not talking controversial posts by any means.... just bland, polite, but mildly oppositional to her party line. I don't know why anyone even bothers.

4. I have not been to Huffpost in years. I wasn't
allowed to say something back then that went against Huffpo rules. I tried to tell the truth. This was back in the Bushwhacker days.

8. With success comes assimilation..always does.

It's easy to take a stand..to draw a line in the sand when you are an upstart rebel..BUT if enough people line up with you, and you become more mainstream, you end up being "civilized", and interested in sustainability ($$$).. and end up killing the part that made you "special"..and then new ones come along..

Kos did it too.

Even DU has done it to some extent.

All organizations do it as they "grow up".

17. +1000
I quit going there several years ago because of censorship, then gave it a second chance last year. When I discovered that the heavy censorship was still going strong I quit the place for good.

2. sour grapes, much?
Her rightly complaining about some of Obama's policies has nothing to do with creating a winning website that receives enough attention and unique visits to warrant a purchase by AOL. If you want, I can compare apples to oranges, the make up of the Dan Ryan's underlayers below the concrete, and the price of tea in china.

Here's what you pretend to believe:

a. You have no problem in her selling her successful business to a larger net entity that will solidify its future, and put her on its board.
b) She is a sanctimonious ass.
c) She has complained about Obama's positions, especially in Health Care, Torture, Gitmo, Iraq, and tax breaks for the super wealthy.
d) her selling her successful business is somehow distasteful to you, implying that the sale somehow taints it and her.
e) There is nothing wrong with selling a successful business AND being placed on the board of the purchaser.
f) She is a sanctimonious ass and self righteous.
g) you will still visit HuffPo
h) A lot of good can come of this sale
i) You hope Ariana comes off her high horse.

Wow. Talk about sanctimonious.

3. Where do you get sour grapes from?
Her selling her business is not distasteful to me whatsoever, what is distasteful to me is her sanctimonious attitude.

You will never find me calling people sellouts, calling the corporatist, saying they are not progressive enough, etc.

10. The key is being on the inside sufficiently to change the organism and not have it change you.
As it stands, she has just tapped out hundreds of millions of dollars from corporate America while ostensibly remaining in charge of editorial content.

Even if they ultimately push her out, she can start an internet television channel or syndicate a radio show or pursue some other forum for advocacy. (Where she can, if she likes, criticize her old creation for being ruined by corporatists.)

Any day of the week, it's money I would rather see come to rest in the hands of someone like her than someone like Beck.

9. I have long since stopped using HuffPo as a source of news or opinion.
However, more power to Arianna for taking money from AOL, which has always been crap.

12. I wonder how some of her "employees" will like being "sold"
In recent months she has attracted some pretty big names from other "news" venues. I wonder if they knew she was feathering the nest, so she could sell it for more moolah..and they were the feathers:)

13. It would be naive of them to think otherwise than that they are disposable.
Maybe we can get some good kiss-and-tell books and articles out of this.

Ironically, thinking back to all those years I actually "subscribed." Only keep the email account because there are those overseas from years past who would have no other way to contact me.

Edited on Mon Feb-07-11 02:43 PM by frylock

19. I expect for-profit business owners of websites to be sellouts.
Not Presidents. There is a huge difference in the two.
