“We are very excited; we feel like it’s game-on now,” Monica Boyer, co-founder of Kosciusko County Silent No More, a tea party group based in Warsaw, said Sunday in an interview with The Journal Gazette.
Tea party organizations will have a caucus at some point to back a single candidate to oppose Lugar, she said. Whether a contested primary hurts Republicans “is all speculation,” Shine said. But if Lugar is challenged, and if Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels runs for president and Rep. Mike Pence, R-6th, for governor, “Indiana is going to be one of the hottest political spots in the nation in 2012,” Shine predicted.
Tea party activists have been critical of Lugar’s positions on immigration and nuclear arms reduction and his votes in favor of President Obama’s choices for the Supreme Court.
