Are you fucking kidding me?
Just saw a car ad...don't know which one, wasn't paying that much attention. The selling point? Not gas mileage, safety features, price, nothing like that. Nope, by pushing a button, you can get real time Facebook updates.

Unbelievable.

6. Maybe so...
Nothing against social networks, and they have proven very useful (see Iran, Egypt). But not while driving, ffs.

17. You bring up a good point...
Still, it seems odd that should be the selling point of the ad, the primary focus. If they had mentioned this along with some other features, probably wouldn't have struck me so much. Are we really that addicted to social meeting that this can be a main selling point?

4. Stupid is an important demographic.
If you could sell a car to every tenth stupid adult every sixth or seventh year, you'd be bigger than Toyota.

The trend is your friend. Numbers don't lie.

11. Do we really need more driver distractions?
Besides, is finding out someones status update so important, it just can't wait until you get to your computer or smart phone?

13. I don't think it needs to be any more distracting then the radio
"Besides, is finding out someones status update so important, it just can't wait until you get to your computer or smart phone?"

Of course it can wait--in almost all cases, I'm sure. But a feature doesn't have to provide an essential service in order to be a pretty cool feature.

24. The point of the ad was that the computer reads Facebook to you
So, in this case, you actually do listen to it.

18. What a great idea
The more gadgets in cars distracting drivers from what they should be doing, the more fatalities. The human race could stand to lose about 4 billion. Maybe Facebook does serve a purpose after all.

20. I kept thinking, "Wow, we have to check what people
write about us on facebook to know if we made a good impression? Really, are we going to devolve until there is no more deeper thinking than what one puts (or reads or in this case, hears) on a social networking site? We are DEVO all right.

And BTW, I have a FB account to keep up with rels. Don't need it in my car. I'm not that socially needy.
