James Baker on Reagan: 'he taught us how to love'

(...)

"He taught us how to be proud again, he taught us how to think big again, well he taught us how to love. I have to tell you, I think he taught us how to love," Baker said. "So his legacy, in terms of concrete achievement, of course is that he led this nation for eight years, eight years of complete peace and prosperity, and that's no small feat. But in terms of his character and things like that, he really set a wonderful example for Americans, both past and future.

4. Peace and prosperity???
Reagan plunged us into deep recession, escalated the arms race, got hundreds of Marines to a pointless death in Lebanon, invaded Grenada and escalated an already out of control arms race.

I guess I didn't get that lesson in love.

16. honestly. it's repulsive that this man who hated democracy is honored by repukes
he also deserved to be impeached b/c of Iran-Contra.

he was the beginning of Republican overreach via an imperial presidency... it's too bad we have so many solidly stupid and, frankly, democracy-hating people in this nation.

26. Or to the people of Nicaragua.
I bet they loved it when the Contras killed their little kids. I've seen the pictures of the tiny little coffins for the little babes. I bet they sure learned how to love from that, now didn't they?

19. Show me the love...
For:

the mentally ill who were removed from institutions and shoved onto communities who were ill prepared to receive them and who ended up homeless...

kids who were about to have ketchup declared as one of the vegetables in school lunch

union workers whose standard of living declined

growth of 401Ks that will never replace the benefits of a pension

workers who were laid off as HR policies that promoted firing the bottom 10% became common place

fear in the workplace as people started not to be able to question their bosses

the glorification of strength over compassion

Destroying education, health, and welfare...

I'm sure people can add to the list...

Show me the love.... USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

20. I call BS on that...
Where our Country needed healing from a war...he tore down
anyone who wanted to make a difference.

Greed was good and even better if his cronies could squeeze working Americans harder.
You all know under raygun the term 'Hard Working Americans' became a term to scorn and belittle.

He was a horrid human and I celebrate his death from this planet.

21. "Where Do I Begin?"
Where do I begin to tell the story
Of how great a love can be?
The sweet love story that is older than the sea,
The simple truth about the love he brings to me.

Where do I start?
With his first hello
He gave new meaning to this empty world of mine.
There'll never be another love, another time,
He came into my life and made the living fine.

He fills my heart-
He fills my heart with very special things,
Angel songs and wild imaginings.
He fill my soul with so much love
That any where I go I'm never lonely
With him around who could be lonely
I reach for his hand
He's always there.

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day?
I have no answers now
But this much I can say:
I know I'll need him until the stars all burn away.
And he'll be there.

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day?
I have no answers now
But this much I can say:
I know I'll need him until the stars all burn away.
And he'll be there .

24. What a man of love to have never had a conversation with his own son. He just talked to "Mommie"
Give me a break. Most of the troubles the world is now experiencing is because of this man Reagan. Either he was behind it, or he was too weak to stop it, so either way, he's far from a hero, or "beloved" figure.

The biggest PR campaign in American history to build a political legacy for a failed administration has been waged by these Ronald Reagan Re-Enacters. What a joke. Ronnie Reagan World is crumbling.

Edited on Sun Feb-06-11 02:03 PM by Rex
History will not be kind to Baker or his master Ronald McDonald Reagan. The records already show Reagan as a buffoonish slacker that let others run the country while he lost his mind. So no, Jim, you are incorrect and no amount of wishing Reagan was a good guy (with a good political record) will make it true. Reagan's Legacy is known now as a complete and total failure. Anyone that says otherwise is a Repuke trying to steal more govt money.
