I've decided not to crap all over Reagan today...
Back in 1982, we celebrated FDR's centenary (and Reagan & Nancy - both were admirers of FDR - themselves led the national festivities).

6 years from now, we'll all be gathering here to celebrate JFK's 100th birthday.

Yes, Reagan is the most over-hyped POTUS of the 20th century, but he's all they (repugs) have. Let 'em have it. Tomorrow, we can get back to crapping on Ronnie.

1. That's your choice
By the same token, I hope those who choose not to participate in chroniciling the crimes and misdemeanors of conservatism's patron saint will not shit on our efforts to reveal the man behind the mythology that the repukes have taken such great pains to construct.

As for the occasion of JFK's 100th birthday...do you really expect the conservatroids to hold back in their unabashed hatred for the man? I'll be countering those lies, I expect, just as vigorously as I attempt to promulgate the truth about their beloved St. Ronnie.

10. No one is stopping you...
...and I'm certainly NOT joining in the festivities to honor him (since there's little to honor him for). I'm merely honoring my greater self and not reducing myself to their levels.

When the occasion of JFK's 100th birthday is upon us, the conservatives and teabaggers will likely heap dishonor on him, and point to today as a reason for doing so. On that day, I will be able to defend my actions by saying that I, for one, did NOT partake in it and chose to remain silent on the issue for this ONE day.

Perhaps you don't remember January, 1982. The Reagans were quite respectful to the memory of FDR. In fact, during the whole push to put Reagan on the dime a few years back was roundly shot down by Nancy herself.

For my part, I'm going to counter the right wing's attempts at beatification with the truth. Sorry if you think we're 'crapping' on the man; his policies are still crapping on us to this day. Please DO proceed with more tut-tutting if you must, but for my part, I would feel remiss in my duties if I allowed the right wing to perpetrate lies AGAIN upon the American public unchallenged.

32. Hey, I didn't start this thread!
I didn't start a thread preemptively calling out a whole bunch of DUers as 'grave-crappers.' It's my contention that if you didn't want to participate in getting out the truth about St. Ronnie on a day the RW will likely attempt to turn into a national holiday, then just do as Jesus suggested to the pharisees about prayer: just do it quietly and without drawing a bunch of attention to yourself! I'm willing to concede that yours is the morally superior position and that the rest of us are reprobate grave-crappers in comparison if you just let it drop and stop peppering your replies with supercilious stuff: 'bent out of shape,' 'take a breather,' etc. If your purpose wasn't to stir up discontent and/or place yourself on a moral pedestal, then WTF was it then?!? Mission accomplished, my friend!

You're a bit too defensive and, yes, "bent out of shape" is an apt description of your behavior. I have no other purpose in this thread than declare my choice to refrain from partaking in what I consider to be in poor taste - attacking someone on the anniversary of their birth.

If you're sooo offended by this thread, why not hide it or put me on ignore. Looks like you're just jonesing for a fight.:eyes:

40. Who was 'bent out of shape' when they posted the OP?
Were there any instances that qualified as 'grave-crapping' before you decided to preemptively assume the morally-superior position? Now you want to refrain?!? Well, refrain already! My money's on more egging-on, however. We'll see who's actually 'jonesing for a fight' by who sees fit to keep it going. As I already said, I'm willing to concede that we're all just morally reprehensible grave-crappers in comparison to you, but obviously that's not good enough for you, as you feel compelled to get in one last 'dig' time after time. Yep, we'll see...

Yes, there were instances before I posted this morning. Also, can you show me where I used the phrase "grave crapping"? You keep putting that in quotes.

I never said I was "morally superior" to anyone on DU. Please feel free to show exactly where I said I was. Your defensiveness speaks volumes about you.

46. 'I've decided not to crap all over Reagan today'
Edited on Sun Feb-06-11 12:00 PM by Cirque du So-What
Your words. He's in his grave, hence, any 'crapping all over' would ipso facto be 'grave-crapping.' True, you didn't use the *exact* phrase 'grave-crapping,' but it's implicit in your opening statement. True, you didn't claim moral superiority over those who choose to counter the stream of revisionism issuing from the RW, but isn't that the image you're trying to cultivate? Who are you anyway to assume the mantle of arbiter for when & where it's proper to 'crap on Ronnie' (again, your words)? Why are YOU so defensive when people take exception to your scolding? If you'll notice, I was nice as pie in my initial reply to your thread; I was content to have left it at that...but NOOOO! You saw fit to get in your little fucking 'digs' subsequently and now it's obvious that you're not going to 'cease fire' your own self! Defensive? Take a look in the fookin' mirror!

And for a third time: I OPENLY ADMIT THAT I AM AN IMMORAL BASTID COMPARED TO THE AUTHOR OF THIS THREAD AND I AM A REPROBATE GRAVE-CRAPPER WHO SHOULD BE A PAIR OF RAGGED CLAWS SCUTTLING ACROSS THE FLOORS OF SILENT SEAS AND WHO CAN ONLY HOPE TO BASK IN THE REFLECTED LIGHT OF THOSE MORALLY IMMACULATE BEINGS WHO GRACE THIS FORUM WITH THEIR PRESENCE!

Can you NOW take solace and fucking well DROP IT?!? Or will you counter with YET ANOTHER fucking insult? Prove me wrong and let it drop!

49. Wrong assumption...
ipso facto or not. "...Crap all over Reagan" refers to his memory. Next time I'll use quotation marks...;-)

No one has insulted anyone. This is a discussion of a tactic (i.e. making negative comments about someone on the centenary of their birth). In my opinion - IMO - to refrain from speaking the truth about Reagan for a single day. One fucking day!

And, no, I won't pay the game of "if you dare answer me, I win!" ("Prove me wrong and let it drop!"). Oldest message board tactic in the book. This is my last reply to you... for now.;-)

Really... who cares what they think? This is all about how I feel about myself. I'm better than them and you should be too!

75. I good with being and wanting different than them. That is all the "better" I need.
Being the adults in the room, more inclusive of their beliefs, and being better has purchased us nothing but loss.

Tear that fucking idol down, burn it, and piss on the ashes.

You are better than them for not leaving a lie about that piece of shit destroying, thieving, Constitution shredding, vile criminal unchallenged for a single moment.

That traitor should be exhumed and exiled posthumously to set an example of how such villains are dealt with.

56. Funny, I've never crapped on Reagan. Just talked about the facts
and what he has done to fuck over our country. If you wish to ignore the obvious truths about Reagan and want to purely crap on him then go ahead and do so. I just talk about his life and works and the pathetic of Reagan shows up naturally. Guess some of us remember living in those times and some don't care.

64. I don't think anyone here is "crapping" on Reagan
As there is little diversity of opinion about him here, all that remains are folks expressing a common theme and back slapping each other for doing it.

66. I agree...
I just choose to wait until tomorrow to resume speaking truth-to-power about him.

70. Later in the week, I may read some of the Reagan threads here.
I read yours as the title caught my eye. The others may contain factual info that I didn't know or contain an opinion that's interesting but as I said, I'll wait till later in the week to find out.

67. I'm not celebrating or crapping...one thing I do have to say, though...
is that someday when Clinton passes to the Great Beyond and the Freeper types are all busy shitting on his grave and pointing out the truths of his presidency, no doubt there will be many (even those who are shitting on Reagan today) calling those Freepers assholes.

Not for pointing out the truths...

But for being classless assholes by shitting on Clinton's grave. That will be the major complaint.

So hey...people can shit on whomever they want, I suppose...they should just remember their own shitting before they call someone else an asshole for doing the same thing at some future time.

72. There was enough crapping on him the day he died...
DU stank like an outhouse in August on that day.

I took the same position that day as I do today (back then, I was Cooley Hurd). There's a time and place - yesterday and tomorrow are good examples.:hi:

74. The teabaggers are lining up to crap on JFK on his 100th
They will be certain to focus on Kennedy's famous sex life.

But this is the thing: Kennedy specialized in top-quality women. I got news for the teabaggers: if any of YOUR presidents had nailed both Angie Dickinson and Marilyn Monroe, you'd be putting up billboards all over the country bragging about it.
