Toon: The World According to Ronald Reagan

Found this from Liberal Values Blog. It's a 1982 cartoon by Pulitzer-winning Seattle Post-Intelligencer cartoonist David Horsey.

7. Africa is interesting
What does labelling most of North Africa as "Egypt" refer to? I was curious to see a nearly 30-year-old cartoon apparently referring to current events in this way.

22. It means he (they) don't care about anything in Africa other than Egypt
actually Reagan and Cheney (then in the House) and the YAFFi's and Young Republicans thought that Apartheid was a great economic system.....and didn't care about how it came to be or what it meant.

10. OMG, I used to have a poster of this
up on my wall back in college at that time! I haven't seen this in years, but it's still perfect, lol!

And I had a lot of interesting conversations with fellow dorm dwellers and students about it as well. At that time, you could actually have a real, spirited, but civil and respectful, debate without the "us vs. them, if you disagree with me, you're automatically wrong and I don't wanna hear it anymore, insert name-calling here" type of shit that passes for "exchange of views" nowadays. From both sides a lot of the time.

30. I'm not defending Regan but...
Does anyone else ever feel like the far right wing tries to pain Regan way farther to the right than he really is...same with Eisenhower? It's like they resort to picking guys in their party who were somewhat popular but now dead and stick words in their mouths because they know someone like Regan can't dispute it (being dead and all).

The only living person they want to hold up is Palin...but most people don't like her except them. Even sadder is often I feel like someone puts words into her mouth and she's still alive, like she's the far-right's ventriloquist's dummy.

The Reps actually have somewhat of a problem with this deifying of Rayguns.
He wasn't what they say he was and if they keep it up it will come back to the form of Democratic fact finding.

Raygun was really reactionary at the end of the day, honestly. Thus the massive hard right lovefest...
