Farrah Fawcett's iconic red swimsuit donated to Smithsonian
Farrah Fawcett's iconic red swimsuit donated to Smithsonian

Children of the 1970s will remember this poster. A carefree Farrah Fawcett -- all limbs and tan and bouncy bountiful hair -- flashing her million dollar smile at the camera. The poster was a staple on walls everywhere from my brother's room to mechanics' garages.

As of Wednesday, on what would have been her 64th birthday, the poster -- along with the original red one-piece Fawcett wore -- are part of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History's collection. According to Smithsonian curator David Bowers, the poster remains the best-selling poster of all time (though this one might beg to differ).

"They asked her years ago for the bathing suit," said longtime companion Ryan O'Neal, pictured above waving goodbye to the swimsuit. "So it was always in her plan."

Also on hand in D.C. for the Wednesday donation ceremony, Fawcett's son with O'Neal, Redmond, and O'Neal's daughter, Tatum.

1. Two important points will be missing
That poster (given to me by a girlfriend who sported Farrah's haircut) hung in my bedroom in the seventies and until I went away to the Navy.

Yeah, there was the suit and there was Farrah, but there were two other points that made the poster "3D".

:)

2. The strategically placed reflection in that pic. Pathetic.
:wtf:

Our culture is ashamed of, or offended by, the nipple.

Bloody gory violence, even against women, in films and on TV, no problem.

But heaven forbid the outline of a nipple be presented.

Sad beyond words.

5. That's what I thought too...
It was no mistake.

Yeah, they can make it look like some 12 year old with an old Polaroid took that photo, but it doesn't fool anyone.

assholes...

3. Her hair-style was iconic. This was just a poster that had no relation to "Charlie's
Angels." Sure, it was a famous poster, but so?
