Anderson Cooper appreciation thread.
Check in if you appreciate Anderson Cooper's reporting from Egypt. He has really been trying to present a full and fair view on the events. I think he is doing a great job under difficult circumstances. And I am not always an Anderson Cooper fan.

1. I agree.
Didja know his momma is Gloria Vanderbilt, who was the first to start selling designer jeans in the 70s?

His dad was an actor, Wyatt Cooper.

3. He won me over with his Katrina reporting.
He may not be a brilliant investigative reporter or a deeply knowledgeable expert on most stories, but he seems to have a sincere understanding of where the real story is, and he sticks with it. That's what he did with Katrina--he cared, and he stayed put, and he made sure people saw what was really happening despite all the efforts to misdirect attention and find new shiny objects to distract. Seems like what he's doing in Egypt, too. So, I'll give him some :applause:

13. Yeah, that's it, but he's also able to turn that into good coverage.
He doesn't go for the emotional jugular or try to load up with syrup and tears, like, say, Beck or O'Reilly. He reports a good story with journalistic integrity, sticking to objective standards, but he always keeps the perspective on the human side.

A lot of reporters either go straight for the emotions without worrying about the details--like Rick Sanchez--and others get ao distracted by trivia==like most reporters--that if you toss them a couple of good facts you can throw them onto a different path or make them lose their focus. Cooper is strong enough journalist to keep the story professional and a strong enough person that he isn't thrown off scent when someone throws him a t-bone.

So yeah, I agree. He's a good reporter who cares about suffering.

5. He has his good points
But I laughed out loud one night recently when he said "reporters don't like becoming part of the story they're covering." Or words to that effect. That was pretty rich.

16. I've liked Anderson Cooper since I first saw him. He tries to be fair in the real
sense of the word, meaning being fair by reporting the facts and truth as they are. He puts himself out there to bring us the real story.
