2. Could he come to NYC and replace Cathy Black as schools chancellor?

Sorry. I don't mean to trivialize.

(But it makes about as much sense as permitting Ms. Black to continue in an immensely important role to which she is spectacularly unsuited.)

3. Suleiman: CIA's Man for Rendition.
A torturer and murderer, most likely.

6. Is There Any Other Alternative?
We all want Mubarak gone and hopefully a more democratic Egypt but the country is not there right now. This is truly a populist uprising but one with no structure...no real leadership with the ability to govern such a bitterly divided and embattled country. Not only would this government/leader have to deal with the transition but also deal with the prime beef of the protesters: high prices on basics. Without the cooperation of the military, including characters like Suleman, any transition to a more representative government isn't going to happen and could open the door to a lot of anarchy. While I'm sure some would enjoy seeing Egypt turn into another Somalia, that's definitely not in the best interests of the Egyptian people.

Remember, this is a country that doesn't have any real history of a representative democracy and thus any such government will have to be carefully built and allowed to evolve. This is where a quiet US can be of the best effect...using the money we send to stabilize food prices and create the stability that will make a transition happen sooner rather than never. The Eygptian people know who their scum are...they just need a chance to evolve and clean their own house.
