Is Egypt the start of a trend or a blip?
Tunisia. Yemen. Some say Somalia, maybe. Even Syria. And how about Lybia; there's noise there, too.

It seems pretty clear the situation in Egypt wasn't fomented by the usual suspects - the Islamic extremists. It started pretty much as advertised, with The Man On The Street.

Now that it has started, it seems to have attracted the bad actors. Pro government thugs. Religious extremists. Greedy opportunists. No surprise; these folks can always be counted on to make the most of a good revolution.

But is this a trend?

What do you think?

3. I actually would like to think
it's the start of a trend...and that the world is waking up to justice and people's needs and that it could be done peacefully in the long run, and that maybe we will eventually throw out our own coprporatocracy as well...

but i am a dreamer, I think humans are inherently good, so what do i know

5. It's a restructuring.
I'll know what that structure is once my betters tell me. Then, I'll believe the opposite.

7. If Mubarak is dethroned and the protestors prevail
like they did in Tunisia, I believe there will be a domino effect and my gut feeling is that Saudi Arabia will be next and that it will be very bloody.

10. it will depend...
...on what comes out at the other end.

If it is some form of democracy and rule of law then it is likely to be revolutionary for the entire region, the first arab nation that isn't either a theocratic or autocratic shithole. Unfortunately I think the chances for that is less than another dictator, religous or not.
