If conservatives want women who want an abortion to see ultrasounds, why stop there?
There are a few things I would like to point out...

I've noticed that there are no military recruiting stations with posters asking the young men and women coming in if they could live without their arms and legs or if their loved ones should really be burdened with taking care of them if they come back with PTSD and violent outbursts. Why is that?

When was the last time an executive at a bank hand delivered a foreclosure notice to a family. This should be easy to legislate since they kind of owe us one. How come we don't see this?

Have you ever seen a health care insurance agent personally give a child a notice that he/she has just been denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition or because the treatment would be experimental, have you seen this person look into the child's face and say "Just go home and make yourself comfortable"? No? Weird, huh?

Military recruit
Bank executive
Health care insurance agent
Pregnant woman

Why is there legislation out and about saying that only one of these groups has to look at their choices in the face, why is this?

1. Probably will backfire on them anyway
Every see what a 5 week old EMBRYO looks like? Having seem mine, not HUMAN I can tell you. It looks NOTHING like what those probirth sites say it does. Plus my Aunt, who was a mother, grandmother, and a NURSE, had an abortion in her 40s. Think showing somebody like her her sonogram would make any difference whatsoever?

9. I Still Have Ultrasound Pictures Of My Children
At EIGHT weeks, you can't even see them (it looks like nothing more than a little bean or something). They don't even start looking like a Gummi Bear until 10 weeks or better.

Why not make women NAME the frickin' thing and then write a letter of apology to it to be buried along with a tiny, ceremonial coffin at a funeral for the fetus that Republicans will make the women have? Just how much more ridiculous does this have to get? Let's just go all "Scarlet Letter" and make the women wear a T-shirt with the ultrasound picture on it every day for the rest of their lives? Or tattoo it to their chests or something? Just how far are right-wingers willing to go to placate their religious nut-bag contingent?

14. I had an ectopic pregnancy at a catholic hospital
even there, they didn't ask me to name a 5 week old embryo, or how to bury it. Obviously, it was just thrown out with the rest of their medical "waste". HORROR, of HORRORS!!!!

Maybe they talk the talk, but they don't really walk the walk!

3. I'm sick of all this dilly-dallying about abortion.
If they want to call it murder, then let them pass a law making abortion a capital crime. Until then, they can STFU.

5. Logically, I don't know why they don't know why they don't indict the woman who procures the
abortion. After all, she "hired" a doctor to be the hit man on her fetus. So why not prosecute HER?

Well, we know the reason.

8. I Have A Solution To This Whole Mess, And It Forces "Personal Responsibility"..........
........which I know conservatives are really big on, right? They want everyone ELSE to take personal responsibility, but why should THEY not have to take personal responsibility for THEIR beliefs? My solution forces EVERYONE to take personal responsibility.

If I were King, my new legislation would go something like this. You want to outlaw abortions? Fine. They're out. Totally and completely illegal in EVERY instance. But, as your mother told you when you were young, ain't nothin's for free, and you have to give something to get something. So here's what YOU, the people who want to outlaw abortion, are going to GIVE in exchange for getting what you want.

If you're against abortion, you sign your name to a petition that will be kept in a secure location. Everyone who signs the petition will be given credit for the coup of getting abortions outlawed in this country. However, here's what ELSE you're gonna get. When we need extra money to house, clothe, feed, and educate all these unwanted children, ONLY YOUR taxes will be raised. YOU will be supporting all the unwanted children you want to force other people to have. Hey, it goes hand in hand, folks. You want children be born, somebody's gotta pay for them. I mean, what good is it to make sure they pass safely through the birth canal if you're just going to kill them with malnutrition and neglect as soon as they're out, right? It's a small price to pay for a "culture of life," though, isn't it?

Oh, but I'm not done. All these unwanted children need PARENTS, don't they? They need someone to house them, raise them, and care for them until they're adults, don't they. Well, when our orphanages are filled to capacity, guess what we'll do. We'll go BACK to that list (the petition you signed to enforce your deeply-held beliefs--your superior morals--on everyone else). And when unwanted children need homes, guess who's going to get a lovely bundle of joy delivered directly to his/her front door, complete with custody paperwork. Now THAT'S what I call taking personal responsibility for your beliefs.

My only question is: once my new legislation goes into effect, how many signatures do you think will be on that petition? Why, I'd venture to say that you'd see people suddenly switching over and espousing the virtues of Choice by the millions. See, personal responsibility is a nice cudgel to hit OTHER PEOPLE with, but it kinda smarts when it gets turned against YOU.

11. what happens in a few decades when the people on the petition die off
and all abortions are still illegal?

Who will you be taxing then?

12. Simple

The law will state that the petition must always maintain a certain number of living signatories, and if it drops below that number, then abortion will once again become legal. So as the old religious whack-jobs die off, new ones will either take their place or see their pet legislation fail.

I don't believe it would ever come to that, though, because once the people with "deep moral convictions" see what "personal responsibility" REALLY means, I think Pro Lifers would start disappearing at an alarming rate. Most religious nuts only want to use religion as a way to tell OTHER PEOPLE how to live. When their beliefs start coming home to roost, you'll be able to add this group to the Endangered Species list.

What would be hilarious is if, when the Social Workers show up at their doorsteps, baby in hand, these Pro Lifers start yelling about how they should have a choice as to whether or not they have a child forced upon them. Oh, that would be sweet, sweet irony.

10. How about if women who don't want an abortion were forced to see something
they didn't want to see.

Perhaps special needs babies/children (I assume there is no reason to be more descriptive).

How about a few kids in their terrible twos/threes stage? That right there might do it for me. :sarcasm:

It seems like sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander. Force all women with children to see both sides of the choice or don't force anything on anyone.

13. Totally - they don't want women to informed of the risks and consequences of childbearing.
Like a video of an emergency c-section with no anesthesia.

A horrifically deformed fetus.

An episiotomy.
