Fox News’ Greg Palkot And Crew Severely Beaten, Hospitalized In Cairo
Edited on Thu Feb-03-11 04:23 PM by Ian David
The attacks on journalists covering the protests in Egypt have escalated, with reports Fox News correspondent Greg Palkot and his photographer Olaf Wiig have been severely beaten in an attack in Cairo. Fox News anchor John Roberts described the attack today, saying Palkot and Wiig were left with “fairly grave” injuries but have now been released from the hospital.

Palkot, who’s been in the center of the protests in Cairo for days, became cornered by pro-government forces, according to Roberts:

They were forced to leave their position when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, a large fire erupted. They were forced to flee. They ran out and ran right into the pro Mubarak crowd and were severely beaten and had to be taken to the hospital, spent the night in the hospital. The extent of their injuries was fairly grave, however, they have been released from the hospital.

The attack on the Fox crew comes as journalists report intensified hostility and violence directed their way, and American networks are working to ensure the safety of their crews.

Watch the story here, from Fox News:

The difference between us and them is that we do feel outrage, even when it's one of their propagandists getting beaten-up.

2. I'm so sorry they were hurt, however, it
makes me wonder how prepared they were to go into such a dangerous situation that more seasoned foreign correspondents would have had several plans, alike A, B and C in case they sensed danger.

And his crew is equally experienced. Doesn't take much research to find things like this out.

probably wouldn't have been hurt. Oh thanks for the research. I'm happy you don't have anything else to do except correct every one and throw your weight around on a message board. Your last sentence was really uncalled for.

22. numerous reporters and their crews are being attacked in Egypt-
I doubt any of them think they're invincible. And all I said was it doesn't take much research to find out something like whether a reporter is experienced. a bit thin skinned, aren't you?

37. Point of class;
Pointing out possible rudeness that might be otherwise easily ignored doesn't promote civilized conversation either. I can't say that I'm up to that all the time, but if I want civility, I avoid escalation.

I have class... I just rarely exercise it. :p

As an example, feel free to say anything rude in response to this if you would like to. ;)

16. This is so very wrong
Pro-Mubarak thugs are deliberately targeting these reporters. I worry for all of them but I also pray they continue to document what is going on in Egypt. Perhaps - perhaps, this incident will drop a few scales from the eyes of the Murdoch/Ailes monster.

21. As much as I detest Faux News and everyone associated with it.....
This is criminal and it wouldn't surprise me if Mubarak and his thugs weren't organized and targeting these journalists.

Mubarak and his allies want to silence any news of the turmoil in Egypt to the outside world. So any journalist that is reporting or broadcasting to the outside world reveals his impotence to control the situation short of an all out military assault on civilians.

Mubarak is using the same tactics used by the Iranian leadership in 2009. Shame on them and I doubt there will even one virgin waiting for them when they enter heaven, more likely a heavyset Bubba waiting to be their boyfriend.

....I'll need to find something else to be because the level of inhumanity shown by some here is not something with which I wish to have any association whatsoever.

Of course, Fox reporters weren't involved then. Maybe they've had a change of heart.

I won't lower myself to mimic them. It's wrong, no matter which side one is on.

Hopefully, all the reporters and their crews make it home safely.
