From AJE: Mubarak tells ABC he's fed up and wants to leave, but is afraid there
will be chaos if he steps down.

Thank God his security forces have done such an exemplary job of quelling the CHAOS that those MILITANT Pro-Democracy protesters started!

:puke:

Looking for link now.

1. Looks to me like he's sitting tight while the generals make a deal
they can live with, all the other bs aside.

2. I believe you are right.
However, I'm not really comfortable with the generals being in charge because of their ties to Mubarek.

8. Well, hopefully there is a younger, less corrupt contingent.
If they prevail, the democratic process will move forward some.

This is what happened in El Salvador during my grandfather's career. He served under a dictator and slowly, the younger generation made progress. And now, as my uncle says, the Communists are ruling the country, a party named after the revolutionary that Papi tried and had executed.

There is an arc to these things, in any case.

4. Looks the same to be. Either that or someone is frantically
calling around to see which country will take him.

9. Imho, plenty of places would take him in if it meant
avoiding further destabilization.

7. It's precisely the reason for the unleashing of the pro-Mubarakites yesterday...
Initiate Chaos=Reason I can't leave now.

11. Bull-pucky, as Rachel always says.
Mubarak should have thought about succession maybe 20 years ago. He thinks he is immortal and will never leave his position and never die. That is what he believes deep inside.

Thank God for the fact that George Washington was more realistic than Mubarak.

12. When I first saw this on AlJazeera I thought it was the Onion -
please go, Mr. Mubarak, somehow I think they'll manage without you.

He's afraid there would be chaos ...
