Well on to Al Jazeera
this is moving too fast, but neither cnn or MSNBC have the personnel to do this.

10. Thank you for that info!!
I have DTV and turned to that channel after reading your post!
I try to get AJ online but the live video freezes up too much for me. I had no idea that I could watch it on DTV!

15. The best way to watch Al Jazeera English online isn't on their website, it's here --->
Download the free standalone player here and it's just like watching it on TV: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x329771

Also, Livestation has several other international news channels.

3. I think AJE are the only folks who are able to get the story from the street right now.
I saw video of Anderson Cooper and some other reporter (female) in serious physical jeopardy for being journalists and American. Again, AJE/AJA seem to be the only folks who can actually get down "into it" and get interviews. Interestingly, at least MSNBC and probably CNN will cover most everything from a camera perched high above the story.

4. That is partly policy
CNN stopped doing that shit a few years ago, as in the first gulf war. I remember having a very interesting talk to one of their reporters, Peter Arnett, during a shooting that I promised him the exclusive for him not going on AIR RIGHT NOW, with breaking nooz. (The kidnappers might watch it)... and during that mess he was more around the story. But after that policy at CNN changed.

7. "Officially" the opposite is true, actually
Egypt have banned Al Jazeera: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4715527&mesg_id=4715527

And they are not mentioning names when they talk to their reporters who are on the ground and reporting on the phone.

No reports of CNN having been banned.

The main difference is that AJE are receiving phone calls from Egyptian citizens & their reporters on the ground giving eye witness accounts as things unfold. The anchor who has been taking all these calls for about 5 hours has done an AWESOME job!

8. Is it current? I was tuned in earlier this evening and they were rerunning
programs from earlier today --

Didn't see the new attacks on the Egyptian protesters until I tuned in late to Rachel!

9. It was current until just a couple of minutes ago.
They're rerunning something now. I didn't hear any segue into this rerun, which has nothing to do with the violence in Cairo. Not sure why this is on.

17. They break away from live video occasionally.
I have been watching AJE online all day. When there is a lull in the live action, they show other things. Sometimes they switch from the Reuters live camera, focused on Tahrir Square, and show "latest pictures" from earlier in the day/night.

Coverage has been excellent. The call-ins from their reporters and from regular folks make it hard to turn it off.

30.  I can use my Roku TV box to get Al Jazeera English without cable
I don't have cable- I hate the cable companies, and can't pay for their overpriced products.

I give Roku credit for posting Al Jazeera as one of their news channels.

Roku is a small box you can hook up to your high-speed modem to watch movies and other special online content on TV. I just got one for Christmas and I love it.
