2. Assad is pretty popular in Syria.
and Syrians are a conservative and conformist culture; I don't expect much to happen in Syria. I do expect much more to happen in Algeria and Sudan, however.

3. Maybe he's popular because 50% of the population is on the state payroll...
He's consolidated power pretty well from the looks of it. With the tight state controls over media and whatnot, it's no surprise that this country will probably continue on with the status quo. They may not even know there is a revolution going on not far from them.

4. I'm not sure, since they do have a higher
unemployment among the youth... same group that exploded in both Tunis and Egypt.

At the very least state security most be ordering the pepto and trying to close down the web..
