BBC: Anti-Mubarak protesters regaining control

1811: BBC world affairs editor John Simpson, in Cairo, says: "Within the last half hour, the heavy battle outside the Egyptian museum between pro- and anti-government demonstrators has ended. Rather unexpectedly, the confrontation seems to have been won by the pro-democracy protesters. All through the day they have been under attack by supporters of President Mubarak, and this represents an important turnaround in the situation. The opposition has now regained control of Tahrir Square, the centre of the last nine days of protests."

1. Just want to get this idea out there:

Mubarek's wife and sons are reportedly in London.

Julian Assange is still under arrest in London for "questioning" re- previously dismissed allegations.

Are there no allegations of crimes by M's wife or sons?

If Mubarek remains in power until the next round of elections in September, he'll have eight months in which to track down and eliminate those who have opposed him, further enrich himself and his friends, destroy evidence, and otherwise improve his own position.

5. The point is, if we can arrest Assange, why can't we arrest Mubarek's family, to pressure M?

They went home to dinner because Mubarak refuses to pay them overtime.

7. I would imagine our administration was anticipating the rent a mob action from Mubarak.

That probably had something to do with the President's speech last night
where he urged the army to remain calm.
