PLEASE help me respond coherently to barton's pro-Life editorial
http://www.thedailylight.com/articles/2011/02/01/opinion/doc4d4884645afc8641778726.txt

WASHINGTON — Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) used the 38th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision to highlight several pro-life proposals he supports that are now working their way through the halls of Congress:

“Thousands of people hit the streets of cities and towns across the nation and the state this weekend with one simple message: Protect Life!

“It has been 38 years since Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal, and while pro-life Members of the House of Representatives can’t yet overturn this deadly decision – we are stronger in this Congress than the last one and we are ready to make an impact.

“I am prolife because I believe that all life is precious and should be respected and I back that up with my vote. I have a career 97% prolife voting record.

“As a lawmaker, I believe I have a constitutional and moral obligation to protect those who do not have the power to protect themselves.

“That is why I recently joined dozens of my colleagues to introduce three bills aimed at protecting the unborn.

“First is H.R. 3, which is titled ‘The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.’ The name says it all. This bill would clear up any doubt and make sure that no federal funding could be used to pay for abortion. It also would give doctors the right to refuse to perform abortions if they have moral or religious objections.

“’The Protect Life Act’ is even more targeted. Despite claims from those who are pro-abortion, ObamaCare does allow some taxpayer funded plans to cover abortion. This bill, known as H.R. 358, would stop that practice.

“Then there is H.R. 374, the ‘Life at Conception Act.’ It would declare that the unborn are ‘persons’ starting at conception and thereby protected under the 14th Amendment. This would take the fight over abortion out of the courtroom and effectively end Roe vs. Wade.

“Republicans have listened to the people, and we promise to keep pushing forward with a pro-life agenda.”

1. Let's be clear ... they only mean protecting unborn human "life."
Screw adult humans and animals.

4. right...and aid for veterans, the unemployed, the uninsured, the
homeless, the hungry of our country, the mothers of those unborn, etc. etc. He cares sh*t for 'life'. He 'cares' for the zygote only.

6. what about the post-womb fetus?
Remember, the Repugs, during the "roarin' Bush years", said that $50 billion for minimal health care for children, over a span of 10 years, was far too much of a drain on the economy ... despite that amount being spent on the occupation of Iraq in just over a month?

3. Does he think that will make abortions go away?
He needs to look at history, abortions didn't start with Roe v Wade.

7. Please don't use 'their' frame; anti-choice is more descriptive
Just as an acorn is not an oak tree, just a potential to be an oak tree, so a fetus or embryo is NOT a child.

8. And remind them that we trust women
we trust women to make choices for their own bodies, their own families.

9. I would aks if he has any statistics on the number of fetuses killed

in Iraq and Afghanistan. After all, they were also unable to protect themselves.

No moral relativism for this guy. A fetus is a fetus after all, precious whether American or not.

Then i would ask him to sponsor a bill that disallowed any taxpayer funding for killing any unborn babies anywhere on the planet.

And one that made lawmakers have to review pictures of dead unborn children as a result of war before any lawmaker could vote for more war funding.

My .02 :)

10. ask him
how protecting fertilization under the 14th Amendment would create jobs. If H.R. 374 Life at Conception Act effectively ended Roe vs. Wade, he would go down in history as the man behind the funeral industry boom thanks to dead pregnant girls and women.

“Thousands of people hit the streets of cities and towns across the nation and the state this weekend with one simple message: Protect Life!"

“It has been 38 years since Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal, and while pro-life Members of the House of Representatives can’t yet overturn this deadly decision – we are stronger in this Congress than the last one and we are ready to make an impact."

“As a lawmaker, I believe I have a constitutional and moral obligation to protect those who do not have the power to protect themselves."

“Republicans have listened to the people, and we promise to keep pushing forward with a pro-life agenda.”

What happy horseshit.
