Homeless Couple Is Super Bowl-Bound... WHAT?
Green Bay homeless couple wins free trip to Super Bowl

For countless Packer and Steeler fans making the trip to Dallas, the Super Bowl will be an experience of a lifetime with plenty of fond memories to look back on.

You'd be hard-pressed, though, to find two people more grateful to make the trip than Ouida Wright and her boyfriend Aaron Hermes, a Green Bay homeless couple who incredibly won a Super Bowl package —including tickets, a hotel room and travel expenses — through a contest held by the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau.

1. Good for them, but that must have been the most annoying contest ever
I'm surprised that no non-participant ended up in jail for punching the 20th or so person asking that inane question...

2. Good for them!
I loved this part:

We're in a homeless shelter, we can't show affection, we've been there for two months," Wright said. "I'm looking forward to spooning."

Some things are just more important than football.

Yay for them!

:woohoo:

5. From the interview
"We had 90 cents in our pockets and we have won a package that people have offered thousands and thousands of dollars for," Wright marveled during the interview. "

17. are they actually living in the streets ? homeless can also mean people
who might have lost their homes and are staying in shelters, with family/friends etc. they might even have jobs but might not be making enough or might be in debt.

Surely you agree that this is an asset better utilized by liquidating it. Sheesh.:eyes:

31. yeah, if they aren't actually on the streets and have a job
they might prefer to go to the game as opposed to someone who really was on the streets.

8. I would too... but it may work out for them.
With all the publicity, there's bound to be some good samaritan (or company that wants people to think that they're good samaritans) who will send something their way.

But yeah... from the outside it sure looks like evidence that many homeless don't always make great decisions when it comes to finances.

19. Maybe, but if they have any sense at all
they could turn this into a PR bonanza

Find some Packer fan who has rental properties, and have that person trade free rent for the prize

The local news would eat that kinda thing up

Homeless couple finds a home due to contest, the story writes itself

27. If I had to guess, they will probably have contest officials escorts
Just seems like Dallas tourist contest officials will greet them at the airport and keep them close if this is all happening on the tourism department dime. Can't see them just cutting them loose here in Dallas. Especially if they are paying for hotel/food/transportation, etc...
Guess they can always refuse to get back on the plane come next Monday even if they are escorted there by contest officials. It's not like the contest people can get any money out of them to be paid back for the money that was put out.

28. Even if escorted, they would not follow them past the airport security
In through the security check point, wait until your chaperon leaves and right back out.

Wouldn't be difficult and you would be in a somewhat warmer climate than Green Bay in February.

26. It will be a pleasant distraction for them, for a short time
Football today has become one of the biggest entertainment distractions favored by U.S. citizens. It makes many people wealthy and at the same time occupies us regular folks, who for a brief while, won't have to worry about our problems.
