Round One goes to Hosni
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 04:47 PM by SoCalDem
He called their bluffs, and now the people in the streets have to decide whether they want to ramp it up & endure hardships during the chaos necessary to remove him. Is it worth it to them?

or do they go back to their daily lives and wait patiently to be told what will happen.

They had their bait all cut, and were ready to fish, but the big one got away..

2. I'm not so sure. I think he's toast. His refusal to leave may trigger violence.

5. That's my point.. The people wanted to make him leave, but
are they ready for what it will take? I think many of them may have been thinking that their mass protests might do it.

He's a crafty devil, and may not even be in a place where they can get to him..and I think he's perfectly ready to wait it out.

10. You're right, this is a critical moment
but if the people decide to continue to protests then the military will kick him out.

13. He is at Sharm El Sheik
if the people storm the palace he might get a clue, get on a chopper, and fly the 20 nautical miles or so to safe heaven in Saudi.

15. My bet is on the Egyptians.
You will notice they did not simply march on a Saturday and then go home. ( unlike us)

They have a week invested, they have very little to lose, and they seem to be of a very stubborn, and courageous nature.
Whole different culture.
Plus, they are supported and motivated by other ME countries that have revolted.

Not to mention, that Bullshit egotistical speech has really inflamed them, according to all the Tweet feeds I am reading.

6. CNN reporter on the ground said that when you leave the demonstration area
and venture into the city, big lines at the bread store, that people waiting in line are angry with those demonstrating for bringing the country to a halt; that the international media is distorting the story.

11. yep..real life eventually intrudes
and many may just decide to "see what happens"..

he'll turn the phones & internet back on, and lay low for a while..maybe even hold some "conferences" that show how accommodating he is being..

many may feel that they have time on their side.

It;s not over, to be sure, but I think a lot of the air was just let out of their balloon:(

24. Yeah, I don't know if it was this reporter or someone else I was listening to, but
the reporter said several people were leaving dejected, feeling as though they'd given their all and that was the best they were going to get.

On the other hand, a reporter on the phone NOW, CNN Arwa Damon, said there was almost an eerie silence and when he said he was staying, they were outraged and begain waving their shoes, and said she has never seen the anger she's seeing now. So there's still some fight left. And I'm hoping that those who are initially disappointed (I bet it felt like being kicked in the stomach) they will keep fighting and know that the world (or a big chunk of it) is supporting them wholeheartedly.

16. Can't believe the CNN reports. They have not been at all factual.
Reports from Egyptians on the ground is that people are sharing what food they have, bringing water to the demonstrators. So, I don't buy what CNN is selling. Are there probably a couple of people here or there upset about their daily routine being changed, of course and I'm sure the CNN dude interviewed people until he found something Mubarak positive.

23. With all due respect to you I don't believe a word cnn says
and I mean not a single word. Their big man wolf blitzer is in the pockets of Israel.
Actually I'm inclined to think that the opposite of what they said is true.

8. Your presumption must include the cause of the hardship.
And if it is just.

There has to be an external point of reference of what is right. Is the status quo just, or are the protesters just in what they want for their country.

From that hardship put on them, is the reason for him to leave, and the threat of that hardship adds to the reason for him to go.

It comes down to who is on the correct side of what should be part of society.

And that is decided many ways, but also by the people, and they have an equal voice to the status quo, and the advantage of quantity with quality.

Many times you are talking about Sophie's choice in your comment, however that situation does not give Sophie the power she should have in that wrongful situation. With justice and compassion she should have a 3rd choice.

If the protesters are just in their claims, then they should have the backing to avoid the hardship, in spite of threats of more hardship.

9. This is more like Round Three. Friday was one and the people won
because they didn't allow the police to beat them back off the street.

Monday was the end of Round 2 when the people withstood the attack of the regime's thugs by banding together to protect each other, their homes and even state infrastructure like bridges and hospitals and libraries, museums.

Round 3 isn't over yet. But these people are in it to win it and they will.
