Big Storm, Heavy Snow Expected in Midwest...
Chicago and other places in the Midwest are expecting up to 18" of snow. I just finished blowing about 4" off my Saint Paul, MN driveway, and am feeling lucky and worried about people who live where much more is expected. I hope everyone stays safe and gets through this winter storm OK. If you're in one of those areas, bundle up and take care of those who can't care for themselves, but do it safely, please!

1. No forecast totals yet for the NE
as far as I can tell.

We're supposed to get ice on top of it all too.

That's what really scares me...the ice. I live on a steep hill and it could be days before anybody can get in or out.

Are you guys supposed to get ice as well?

Here in Dayton Ohio. :(
I'm very worried about the electricity.
In 2008 our electricity went out for 14 days in september because of wind storms. It was 80 degrees then.

7. No. the bulk of the storm is done here. We're a bit further north, and
the storm's heaviest weather went south of us.

10. Winter storm warning for here (western NY)
10-14" predicted, up from the 8-12" predicted earlier today. Could be a humdinger. Or could be nothing. It's been known to happen.

...under a pile of warm, comfy blankets! In other words, I may not go into work. One time I tried it and ran my car against a curb because of the ice. Cost me $80 to replace a bent rim.

So I may be :boring: tomorrow!

Only:

Grade "B"...!!!

Earthy tones and rich flavor!

Breakfast is served from 5am to 3pm...

Hope your neighborhood will be spared losing your heating and lights. That really takes the fun out of a winter!

11. Ohhhh, boy. Before we get to the snow in the Kansas City area, we have to get freezing rain first.
Keeping fingers crossed in desperate hope we don't get a return of the week long, or longer, power outtage we've seen here before too many times.

Hope the predictions everywhere will turn out to be exaggerated.

It's absolutely no fun whatsoever living without electricity and heat in the dead of winter! Just check into a local hotel/motel? Out of the question for those of us with pets.

14. Not into conspiracy theories but I think a lot of this is to sell snow blowers and other snow gear
We get these way out of proportion "RUN OUT AND GET A SNOWBLOWER!", warnings about this time every year. Stores are currently packed full of unsold snow removal gear right now and the stores need to begin making room for Easter stuff and gardening equipment real soon. I will believe the numbers when I see them. Think I have seen this movie before.

Winter weather around here will be over in less than a month. Might get an ice storm or something in March. Or even a few inches of snow but with the warmer March temperatures its all melted the following day.

16. Even Albuquerque has a winter storm warning; 3-6 inches, and down to about zero
Wednesday night, with Santa Fe having 5-10 inches predicted, and down to 5 below. First time it'll have gone down to zero here in about 20 years. Unbelievable...

Grew up (using the term loosely) in Chicago----was in high school when we got hit with 28 inches in 1967. Fun when you're a teenager; probably not so much fun if I was there now; this'll be bad enough here...

and our daytime high on Wednesday is supposed to be in the teens, an all time "record low high."

I left Boston for this?

I just hope we don't get clobbered with snow. There are literally no snow plows in this town. Snow usually stays up on the peaks. If any falls here, it's gone by noon. However, we've been clobbered before, just 4 years ago.

I'm all set for the power going out and the birds will have a blast because I'll be learning how to do wheat free baking in one day if there's no heat.
The birds will eat what I can't.

I'll have ever experienced here, and I've been here most of the time since 1972..............Originally from Chicago, so I've been in the minus 20's on enough occasions to where I guess I shouldn't get too freaked out about plain ol' zero

32. I just hope the drunks get sodden at home
instead of running into power poles the way they usually do every damned time it snows here in the valley.

Like you, I'm unimpressed by a mere zero F. It just gets nastier without heat, although I've done that too.

19. Their forecast for ice all day was wrong
So now I am questioning the blizzard forecast.

The weather guys here are horrible. They are wrong more often than they are right.

We were supposed to get raining ice all day and we got just a little bit. It's slick but not the sheet of ice we were warned about.

31. We got your sheet of ice to the east of you,
Started the freezing rain at eight this morning and has been icing ever since. Went outside a while back and ice is coating everything, a good half inch.

Even if we get the minimum predicted snow, eleven inches, it's still going to be a skating rink out there.

Stay safe, stay warm.

34. Sorry to hear that.
My friend is a truck driver who delivers for Scholastic Books. He had a delivery in Salina earlier today and then called his next school, 100 miles SW of Salina and they had already closed the school and the highways were being closed into the town. He said the highways between here and Salina was slick.

39. I ran up to Mexico this morning,
Drop off movies, pick up some supplies from the hardware store. Started out a bit before eight, it was starting to rain. Started back about 8:30 and passed a number of cars in the ditch or median already, highway was slick and backroads slicker.

Had to go out and prop up some first year saplings that were starting to bend under the ice. The only place to get footing was the actual snow pack left from last week's fall.

MU officially closed at four this afternoon and called off everything, classes, concerts, etc. for tomorrow. I think that's about the fourth time in my life that I've seen MU close due to snow.

That southern tier of Kansas and Missouri both get a huge amount of ice. I live in Springfield for a few years and have some amazing pictures of what ice does. One street that was in an older, tree lined boulevard was completely denuded of trees one winter due to a massive ice storm. I'd rather deal with lots of snow than lots of ice. Guess I will, the radio just jumped the snow total up to twenty one inches:woohoo:

Chicagoland wouldn't escape winter without a major storm like this. The only thing I don't like about it is when the Village plows come down the alley and shovel my garage in so I can't get my car out without rockin' and rollin' and clippin' mirrors off!

On the up side, I picked a good time to stay home sick. ;)
